Repairing a wood stock finish?

I am continuing to rehabilitate this Remington 700. I have a new recoil pad on, now I am looking at touching up the stock.

It has a number of shallow dents and scratches, only a couple of which are deep enough to (barely) penetrate the finish into the wood. They are all small, 1/2" or less.

Is there a compound that can be applied directly to the existing finish to re-seal (and ideally, aesthetically cover up too) this damage?

The finish is whatever Remington was applying at the factory 10 years ago - it looks to me like a polyurethane but I could be wrong. It is the satin finish, not a gloss.

Using the search function here, all the stock finishing how-tos I found were for a full refinish starting with bare wood. The damage to this stock doesn't seem to justify that yet.

Probably your best bet is to try to fill them with Tru-Oil.
A drop applied heavy to the dent until it is level with the surrounding wood will dry there. Don't hand rub it per directions or it will build up around the dent as well as in the dent.
(May take two or three applications to get it up to level again depending on the depth.)

After it dries, you can rub the gloss out with 0000 steel wool and try to match the old finish.
