My son-in-law was recently given his grandfathers old(50+ years,he thinks)Ruger 44Magnum Single Action. His grandfather had filed down the front sight because he had trouble with it snagging on his holster(?). We've talked to a gunsmith that told us about the only fix may be to solder a piece on top of the sight but that it more than likely would not hold long. Can anyone suggest a better way? He took one of the fiber optic tubes from my HiVis kit and was going to try to somehow attach it to the sight, but I have my doubts about that holding, either. He would like to keep it as close to original as possible because this gun is the closest to his heart of all his guns, but adjusting the rear sight to compensate just aint working for him. Any suggestions?
