+1 keep the 642. Maybe save a few bucks and update your CCW holster.

Before you make a final decision, go price out practice and carry ammo for the. 380.

Also take a look at a Kel-Tec P3AT. It is rougher around the edges than an LCP but reliable and typically cheaper.

I just bought a 642 two days ago, so I'm going to say KEEP IT! The 38 is a better round, and a revolver is simpler to operate.

I'm a revolver guy though, so it's JMO. Good luck.
 
I have both a 642 and KT P3AT 380. The 380 is a perfect BUG and gun you can take and conceal just about anywhere. My CC set-up is either the 642 or Ruger SR9c is my primary and the 380 as BUG. I wouldn't sell the 642 to get the 380 though. I'd just save up for it. FYI, my KT did have a 300rd break in period consisting of many FTE's. Strangely though, right on cue, after that it's worked great, just as advertised.
