Replacing fiber optic rod

Not a true smithing question but...any tips for replacing just the rod? Rod fell out of my Novak front site. They sent a new rod, which has to be cut to size and I assume, melted on each end slightly to make it stay put. I'm sure it's not very complicated, but figured I would check to see of there are any small tips or things to avoid from others who have replaced these rods...

Here's what Dawson recommends, I doubt Novak will be much different.

I was once advised that if you put a tiny drop of Superglue on the rod at the inside holes of the post, it will prevent the slack and vibration which commonly breaks the plastic. I have not lost an insert since I started doing that.
