I've decided to replace the old style sights on my 220 with some 3-dots.

Given the tooling available to me I'm pretty sure I can just drift the old ones out, and new ones in, without buying an expensive sight pusher. If this is a bad idea, please tell me now.

The more important question I have, how do you recommend aligning the sights aside from trial and error at the range? Does one just mic them to the center of the slide? Mic the old ones before removal and match?

Any input would be appreciated, Thanks.

EDIT: While I'm at it, anyone have recommendations for sights? I'm shopping around online atm, lots out there.

Sights

The more solidly you can hold the slide, at least in my experience, the more power you can apply to the sight safely with a hammer and drift punch. If the vice is solid enough make a mark on the wall that aligns from the old sights, and when installing the new sights bring then to align on this mark.

sig sights

the sig sights are removed and installed from the LEFT side differing from north american coming from tge right side.

The sight pusher is very helpful as they are in tight!Caution do not hit the blade on the front sight as it will break if you go the punch route.
good luck chris

I took the sights off of my SIG 229 that I use for CCW.

I wrapped lots of tape around the slide, and then I wrapped even more tape around the slide, then I put it in a vice and pounded the sights off with an aluminum drift.

I installed XS 24/7 Big Dot sights. They have set-screws on the rear sights that allow you to adjust them where you want them, then you just Loc-Tite them in.

One thing about the 24/7 Big Dot sights - they are "Combat Sights", not "Target Sights", which means that they are more conducive to carry use than they are for range time.

As for sighting in the new sights, I just put the front one in about the middle of the slide, and adjusted the rear at the range.
