Is there anything similar to that out there? Replicas apparently cost tens of thousands of dollars to my amazement. I'd really like a replica of it. It doesn't have to be exact but something that looks very similar. Anyone have any ideas?

Only replica Ive seen was at the discovery Museum ( as in Corps of Discovery ) in The Dalles OR. Does the original still exist?

It was called the Girandoni air rifle, and was even used by the Austrian (I think) army and was considered pretty effective. Very rapid fire.

I would LOVE to have a replica of one. The buttstock air tank could be made far stronger than the originals, and with a few small tweaks and updates like modern synthetic gaskets, it wouldn't be too hard to build.
