One of my favorite movies and one of my favorite movie guns I'd love to have a replica but I can't seem to find a maker that offers it. does anyone have any info on replica offerings?

Just do some google shopping for Kentucky or Pennsylvania rifles. They are legal to ship through the mail. Many retailers also sell kits so you can finish them off yourself

There was a good deal of discussion at the time the movie was running.
As I recall, the flintlocks were made by a noted riflesmith who also instructed the actors in loading and shooting them. Can't google anything specific tonight.

The Gunsmith at Colonial Williamsburg takes orders (or at least did).....if you can pay that kind of money.

Movies can shell out all kinds of dough. I remember in the special features for the Duellists, Ridley Scott said that he paid some Italian tailor $15,000+ EACH to make the uniforms for the two main characters...and ownership resided with the tailor who made them.

i bought a pedersoli blue ridge rock lock rifle and its very nice. in .50 and it shoots like a dream. with the brass metal blackened and with no patch box,it would look alot like a tenn poor boy, but cheaper. eastbank.

The first thing to consider is do you actually want that rifle, or do you want a PA rifle like it? Or do you want a historically accurate PA rifle? Many of the offerings you see from Dixie or Pedersoli aren't authentic to any time or place. The thing about muzzleloaders is that sometimes you don't realize what you don't know until you start learning about how much there is to know.

There are some knowledgeable guys on here and you'll also find some information on both the traditional muzzleloading forum and on frontierfolk.net.

The rifle used by Hawkeye/Nathaniel Poe (Daniel Day-Lewis) is the Kentucky Flintlock Rifle. The long rifle was developed from the German Jaeger Rifle which eventually evolved into the Pennsylvania rifle by lengthening the barrel, slimming the stock and downsizing the caliber (the original jaegers were designed to hunt boars and were .62 caliber!). The choice of the rifle is interesting since Hawkeye and his cohorts plan to leave the Hudson Valley region for the Kentucky territory, but are sidetracked.
