@ goon: I have no faith that Heller vs. DC will stop them. Think I am silly if you want, but the way the American public is being swayed by the media and Obama's team is disheartening. He is gearing up his political campaign machine to build support for legislation now that it has been written.

There are laws like the Heller case, but liberal anti-gun people are pernicious, clever, and will gradually infect the public's mind with their insidious, flawed messages.

You're entitled to your opinion and I admit I was a little concerned when I read that Obama is trying to mobilize his campaign resources to push gun control. I still am and that is why I am still writing letters.

But realistically, most of his support is going to come from people who voted for him and follow along bleating like unthinking sheep. They will get some support, mostly from urban Obama supporters. But they won't get rural people like me and they won't get people in the right like you. Even some Obama supporters still won't support this run on gun control.

I share your concerns, but I am nowhere close to giving up yet. And I have the Second Amendment and a Supreme Court ruling on my side, along with millions of other Americans.

In Animal Farm, Napoleon knew that if he garnered sway over the pups, he would be able to rule when they became attack dogs. With his attack dogs, he changed the rules, deciding "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others"

Sway over the pups in America...who has it?

For anyone who though Harry might support us, here is his latest email that he is sending out.

Dear VegasAR15:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I appreciate hearing from you, and I am grateful that I have an opportunity to hear your views in the wake of this terrible tragedy.

I share your concerns about the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. My heart goes out to all those affected, especially the families that lost loved ones and the students and faculty of Sandy Hook Elementary who witnessed such unspeakable violence. No words of condolence could possibly ease the pain of families who lost cherished children; however, I hope it is some small comfort that the nation mourns with them, and we stand with them as they overcome the suffering and begin the healing process.

As part of the healing process, we need to accept the reality that we are not doing enough to protect our citizens. In the coming weeks, Congress and the White House will engage in a meaningful conversation and thoughtful debate about how to change our laws and our culture that allows violence to grow. We need to examine what can be done to prevent more tragedies like the ones that happened this year in Newtown, Connecticut, Aurora, Colorado, Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and Portland, Oregon. We have no greater responsibility than keeping our children safe, and every idea should be on the table as we discuss how to best protect our children. We can honor the memory of those who were killed in Newtown by acting to ensure that our nation is protected against such horrific tragedies in the future. Please be assured of my commitment toward that end.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
My best wishes to you.

Sincerely,
HARRY REID

Reid's new response sounds like the responses people were getting from Northeastern senators, especially with that tired old "Everything needs to be on the table" phrase. I guess Harry has jumped on the Ban-Wagon. Not that it should be a shock. Everybody that thought this thing was going to die in the Senate need to wake up and smell the coffee.

The problem is that every idea isn't on the table. Only more gun control is on the table.
No one is talking about hardening schools or making it difficult for attackers to even get in. In many small town banks, the teller is behind bullet proof glass and you slide the money to her through a metal slot. Why can't we do that with schools? And why isn't anyone in government saying this?

I already know the answer to that. I just wish I didn't.

Harry Reid is a career politician. Harry Reid is not our friend, ally, or kindred spirit.

Just thought I might post his response to my email up here.

Dear Mr. Kirby:

Thank you for contacting me about gun violence prevention in light of the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. I appreciate hearing from you.

I share with all Americans a profound sense of sorrow at the senseless act of violence committed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The nation mourns this event and many Americans wonder what can be done to prevent this type of tragedy in the future.

I am an original cosponsor of the Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act which would reinstate a ban on magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The ban on multi-round magazines expired along with the federal assault weapons ban in 2004. I am a cosponsor of a bill that would reinstate the ban on assault weapons and would expand the definition of assault weapons to close loopholes that allow gun manufacturers to work around the previous ban.

I support universal gun background checks, which prevent the transfer of firearms without a background check by non-licensed gun sellers. I am a cosponsor of “terror gap” legislation that would give the Attorney General discretionary authority to deny gun sales to individuals who are known or appropriately suspected to be engaged in terrorism.

The majority of Americans and the majority of thoughtful gun owners and hunters agree that there must be reasonable limits on gun ownership and weapons. We must institute common-sense limits, such as barring those with a history of mental instability, those with a history of violent crime or who are subject to restraining orders, and those whose names have been placed on a terrorist watch list from owning weapons. Straw purchasers and gun dealers should face firm penalties. There should be limits on how many firearms may be purchased in one month. Those who own firearms that are within the reach of children should have protective locks on their weapons.

The United States Supreme Court has raised questions about the Second Amendment and the protections and responsibilities under this Constitutional amendment. I plan to hold a Senate Judiciary Hearing in the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights Subcommittee to address this Constitutional question and how to forward on gun control.

My heart and prayers go out to the victims and their families in Newtown, Connecticut, as we remember the children and teachers who lost their lives.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to keep in touch.

Sincerely,
Richard J. Durbin
