So I got one of the reproduction WWII "S&W Victory Model .38" holsters from Pacific Leather (and boy, am I impressed with the details and craftmanship!).

Its correct down to the point that the back is stamped "1943 R.I.A".

Is that the same Rock Island Armory famous today for AR-15s?

I can't imagine they were making holsters, but my knowledge on such things is limited:)

Thanks!

The REAL Rock Island Arsenal never made AR-15's.

Within the last 20 years or so, several commercial companies have been using the names of the US government arsenals at Springfield and Rock Island.

These private companies have no relationship to the government arsenals other than using the names.

The real US government arsenal at Rock Island did make some leather goods for issue, as did several others over the years.

I think the last holsters actually made at a government arsenal was during WWII.

The Army's Rock Island Arsenal made a LOT of leather goods for the military, starting with, I believe, Maclellan saddles during the civil war.

My Grandfather had a leather bucket of some type that had an RIA stamp on it.

He said it was a leather water bucket used by cavalry troops.
