Today, my great-grandmother passed along inheiritence checks to us- she is getting very old and wanted to help us out. I really don't need the money, but I am very appreciative and promptly socked it away in a savings account, paid off my truck...and swung by the LGS. Unlike most snot-nosed kids, I don't blow money, but as I was driving over to Henry's, that song came on. I know most of the members here are older, but some of the new country is still great. Anyways, Grandpa Nichols was a Nebraska farm boy before he joined the Navy, serving on the Milwaukee and the Wichita in WW2 and eventually earning Master Chief. He taught my grandpa and uncles about shooting and guns and life and stuff, but he didn't really get a chance with me- first great-grandson, but he was too old for anything other than target practice, and the guns he did pass on when he died are rightfully my uncle's. I decided to stop in and browse, with the intention of using a tiny bit of this windfall to get my wife a CCW she actually carries (as her RIA 45 constantly seems to fling brass at her forehead). They didn't really have what I wanted to get her, but they did have some grandpa's gun...a pre-68 Western Field M550A, 26" bbl, in great shape. It's now in my closet, stoked with buckshot, replacing my trusty revolver as my house gun...and even if it wasn't a Grandpa Nichols piece, I think he would approve of spending money he earned and saved to protect my family (and hopefully get a few hogs in Texas this fall).

What's up with this shotgun? It looks a lot like my wife's M500 Mossberg, but the front end is different and the bolt is jeweled. No serial on it that I can find. It has a cool adjustable choke...

The old polychoke?

That's a cool old gun. Decidedly untacticool, but at the same time, if you run it right, your home is well protected. Enjoy.
