As seen in this link;http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=217271&highlight=harries&page=2

the reverse Harries position looks good. Until I tried it the night before last. No pain and no ripped clothing, but the slide on an XD9 doesn't have the strength to cope with winter jackets of the left arm getting in it's way, so it did not return to battery.

I do like the effect of getting light on the sights though.

The way to keep all the clothes out of the way positioned the left so far down the right it didn't offer any bracing effect worth mentioning. Like I said I liked the light flooding over onto the sights, but in winter just too much puffy material.

In the picture posted by Blackbear who also posted this great thread I read: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=153616&highlight=shooting+low+light

He has a bare wrist. In winter, at night, in the mountains, it gets to -20 (-4F) even if the daytime was just around freezing/melting. So you've got gloves and the sleeve cuff and insulating stuff inside the sleeve, it all puffs you right up.

Actually what I did was wear doubled gloves, it was warmer this time than the last weekend we went out at night, but any gloves that you can shoot with you will freeze in, so you got to keep the right hand double-covered and then lose one layer when you go to shoot. Going to pick up some neoprene's and give it a try again next weekend.

P.S. a big high-five to the guys who designed the M14, the rifle that is easy to load in the winter! SKS 7.62x39 cartridges are too small, 9mm forget about it, but 7.62x51 you can handle with gloved hands, hooray!

Try indexing the light on your neck/jaw. Keeps your light hand and clothing clear of your pistol. Its real easy to find the same spot on your neck every time and I find it easier to align eyes, light, gun and target with the light closer to my body.

Neck Index will put enough light over your sights that you can see them, it's also easier to snap into.

It seems to me that putting your light back behind the gun throws a lot of shadow out in front.

And why do you need light over the sights? Get tritium night sights. You should only worry about light on the target.

This is where lasers and weapon lights can come in handy, provided they can be switched on and off with the hand that's holding the weapon. I know there's been a ton of debate on whether or not to use a light on your weapon or in your hand, but I say why not both? Offers you the best of both worlds. Even with the Liberator from FirstLight, you still may find yourself using the hand with the flashlight on it to open a door, hold something, etc., leaving you momentarily without a light when you need one. I would use the Liberator or a normal flashlight in the off hand most of the time and the weapon light only when that hand was occupied. Neck index, Harries, FBI, whatever technique you choose, you're gonna have to use that hand sometime or another to do something besides illuminate the area you're observing. That's when a quick flash with your weapon mounted light is needed.

Ahh my question is WHY it obsecures your field of view. its a problem looking for an answer. neck jaw index is faster, and it works well.

question for OP how much actual training in low/no light have you gone through.
Not slamming just asking.
