Then why didn't he cover the threat.
I admit sul has it's place, but if there was a threat within range, the muzzle is better off covering the threat than the floor. So again, either no threat was present or this was a misuse of time and space in a fight.
None of the comments here have stated that the ready position was the determining factor in not getting our guy holed. "He didn't seem to be part of the problem" and "He didn't look like a bad guy" came up. Overall behavior conveys these things, not the manner in which we grip our pistols. My objection is not to the use of a technique or position, but the conjecture that this is what kept a legally armed person "alive" when the scenario played out. Opening statements of this thread conveyed the tone of "Do this, you won't get whacked by friendlies". That's not true.
