Why do the majority of holster makers put the clip/retaining device directly over the thickest part of the revolver for IWB holsters?

In order to have a thin leather or kydex holster I have to look high and low and usually settle for an off brand maker's holster that I tweek for my gun.

God bless the ones that make a concealed holster concealable.

Done.

What kind of "device" are you referring to? The Kydex revolver holsters I've seen retain the gun using the trigger guard, just like most semi auto holsters.

Thanks for the links folks.

Later I'll add a pic of what I have so far for a J frame AIWB in kydex. Ironically the Charter Arms offering is the best I've found in leather.
This one has the offset clip/fastener, extra material to protect your body from the gun hammer, and thin so as to not add needless bulk.

I know some folks like extra material for reholstering while wearing but not me.

Too low and revolver can pop out......too high and have trouble drawing(binding) I would think.Clip at wide point would help with both, that being said Im not a holster maker.

Generic brand X I found in a box at great American outdoor. Said it was made for a Taurus 85 but for $14 I figured what the heck I'll give it a try. A little doobie grinding to alot for the laser grip and she's in business.

I'm waiting for a MacDaniel II Crossdraw for a J frame to arrive from Andrews Leather. They said that they happened to have one "nearly finished" when I called about it, and I was promised to receive it in "about a month". It's been "about a month", so hopefully it will show up soon.

The Crossdraw model will let you move the belt loop to either over the cylinder, or on the wing. You can also adjust cant and lock it down.

I'll post it on THR once it arrives.
