Revolver!

No flying brass.
No trying to find a brand of bullet that is reliable.
No "leaving one in the chamber."
No need to rack the slide before opening fire
No jams.
No need to disassemble/easier to clean
Wider range of grips to tailor looks
Super reliable.
Reliable.
Reliable.
Reliable.

revolver! l love the double action trigger, single action hammer cocks; the way they feel, it's a MACHINE! interestingly enough most posts are pro revolver, but the vote is favoring the semis. By the way, i am 26 and got my first gun this year my 23 year old wife wants a Taurus model 94 (not just for geezers anymore)

Semi-auto. I carry a snubbie often, because it's concealable in Houston weather, but I prefer the Kimber and if possible carry both. None of my semiautos have ever given me a moment's trouble, while both of my revolver have been/are in the shop. For a thing that is supposed to be simple and reliable, my luck with revolvers has been rather the reverse.:cuss:

My XD was dead reliable, my Kimber is dead reliable, and my BHP seems to be so also, although I haven't shot it as much yet. If reliability is the measure, the semiautos have it.

interesting. This poll has semi autos in the lead....but revolvers still have a very strong following (almost half)

Both. S&W Airweight in the pocket during the summer; S&W 4586 on the hip the rest of the time.

I voted semi-auto. I haven't owned a revolver for several years but I'm in the market for one now. I want it for Bulls Eye competition. I just don't know what to buy. It's hard to beat a semi-auto for most everything else.

I didn't vote because I don't fit either catagory... I mean I fit both catagories... I mean there isn't one that fits the bill exactly. Although the last few years I've been carrying an auto more than a revolver I still shoot and enjoy my revolvers just as much as my autos.;)

Hmmmmm,

My favorite, or what I actually carry most the time.

Fav to shoot - 1911.

What I carry? Small wheelie of various types.

I, in my work, can not carry, not can conceal a holster. So in reality, when I run to the bank, or to other company locations during the day, I put that little wheelie in my pocket. It is ready to just pull the trigger. When I go to dinner after work, the same thing.

It is not as I would wish it, but it is the best for what my life allows.

All made in U.S. of A. of course.

YES...I feel equally safe & secure w/ my pistols & my wheelguns. For your poll, I'll vote "All of the above" :D

u need a both option as im not young nor old(30's)i own both hk's and smiths.i shoot more revolver than auto's but i carry auto's.

I grew up having only one revovler in the house, and old and somewhat worse-for-wear H&R .32. I have, tot his day, shot far less than a hundred rounds through it. So I grew up on autos. I shoot autos more often because they are cheaper per round and the vast majority of actual training I;ve had with a pistol is with an auto.

That said, I think a revolver is a great tool. I like them for big stuff and for really small guns. Most of my revolvers are .45 Colts, a cartridge that fully deserves the cult following it has attracted, but I really appreciate a good .357 as well. I have a glock in one night stand and a Smith .357 in the other. I would prefer an auto if I were knowingly going into a fight, but I would not feel poorly armed with a revolver.

Semi-auto for personal use. I usually recommend revolvers to those that ask about home/personal defense if they are not experienced with handguns.

Bottom feeders are fine I even have a few, but I like the revolver better. It's a trust thing, every semi-auto I have ever owned has failed to fire at some point for a host of reasons. My wheel guns have only failed twice in 30 years, a crane screw backing out and failure to properly crimp a heavy load.

I must say, I am very surprised in the number of votes for a revolver.

I didnt vote because I like them both. I carry an auto, but did carry a 2" Taurus Tracker in .45LC. I wouldnt feel undergunned carrying a revolver at any time with a few speedloaders.

Revolvers are ok, but...

Their main time has passed. Just about every sizable police and military force uses Automatics. For Conceal and Carry, I use an automatic mainly because they are easier to carry, with more ammo capacity. I also feel more secure with 10 shots vice 6. Automatics' reliability has also improved to the point where they are just as good, if not better than the revolver's.

For beginners, or people who I know won't maintain an automatic, I recommend the revolver. It's main advantage being Simplicity. With a revolver, all I have to do is point, pull the trigger, and it goes bang.

REVOLVER

Unless you anticipate getting into a gunfight with 2 or 3 BG's with AK's (in which case you are going to loose anyway even if you have a 12 round or more semi-auto with 4 reloads), a 5 or 6 round .357 revolver will reliably and adequately protect your life and those of others under deadly threat 99.99% of the time...I'm not worried about the .01% of the time it wouldn't...If I was, I'd keep an M60 machine gun in my truck...Just in case.

Gnat-Semis more reliable then revolvers:scrutiny:

Yeah PD's have autos for the most part, but they are a lot more likely to need the extra rounds. Stats show however, in the vast majority of all shootings you only fire a couple of rounds. So a 5 or 6 shot revolver is plenty.

Whether you prefer a semi or wheelie, carrying a reliable gun you can shoot well is most important.
