my 28 wearing the grips off the 29. I know this is supposed to be the poor version of the 27, but it the trigger is smoother than a teflon coated babys butt....

python-tastic ! But I think I prefer the smiths....

Wow. I NEVER get tired of revolver picture threads. What happened to the beautiful blue jobs manufacturers used to do their guns. The color of a well blued revolver is one of the prettiest colors in the world in my humble opinion.

Regards
John

With you there John - as are I think most of us revophiles! Fortunately as you should see on the thread - there are some of the ''ol' beauties'' still around. Don shows us his superb 27-2 3 1/2" and there are others. I think I posted my two M27-2's on first page.

All being well - these guns with that rich luster of blue will long be around - as long as we as custodians give them a good home and leave them ready and fit, to move on to the next generation.

If I am not mistaken, the grips omn M. Stern's revolver are made of French walnut. Randy 63 just got a set of similar ones from the same maker for a 4 in m-29. Sweet!!! There are some nice pics. here! Randy , you out there? Show us that pic. of those grips again.

Litlman, I'm pretty sure you're correct. Just every day run of the mill Roy Fishpaw quality French Walnut. :)

The French Walnut Fishpaw grips on my Bowen .45 cost $300, and added an extra 6 months to the delivery time. They are a perfect fit, and extra-nice because they are signed inside and serial-numbered to the gun.

Michael is right about the fit. Fishpaw grips actually "snap" on the revolver. A perfect fit.

I paid $275 for the French Walnut grips on my 4" 4 screw 29. From the point I got on Roy Fishpaws waiting list until he had me send my gun to him for fitting was 12 months. He had the gun for another 10 weeks before I got it back with these grips. After you have your first set made you can send a gun to him every 6 months. IMO it's well worth the time and money.

I also have a 4" 586 on lay-away

Mike... nice stainless collection ya got there, but you definitely have some work to do in the "blue" department. The 4" 586 is just the ticket... one of my very, very favorite Smith & Wessons of many that I have. Your stainless Smiths will be jealous once you get your hands on the blue beauty....

Before this revolver thread I was suffering from chronic Revolveritis. You know the kind--It's where your hand involuntarily begins to conform to the grip of a S&W or Colt SAA. Too late now its almost terminal.

I must buy another GP 100 in a 4". Blued this time. And I have Mernickle holsters for my DA revolvers but I can see I'll be ordering one for my 45 SS B'hawk.

And the Fishpaw grips I don't think I will live long enough to get a pair of those.

DHart that custom 586 who did the bbl work.

No vacation this year it will all be spent on revolvers.

Sometimes I wonder why I am on the lookout for the next revolver. Like, why do I need more? Then I find a thread like this and see these pics and know WHY! Nice pics. I love this place.

Thanks, I know what you mean and when I saw a 586 in perfect condition I was in love! I'm going to call it my little "Black sheep" :D

I hope to pick it up at the end of the week at the same time as the PC 952-2 I ordered.

BTW, your 4†586 is beautiful!!!

I am very new to wheel guns. I bought a Taurus 66 about 6 years ago and sold it after about 75 rounds through it. I just felt like it wasnt for me. My taste in guns has changed over the last few years and I recently picked up one of those CDC trade in 64-2 S&W's. I have yet to shoot it, but I sure do like to fondle it.

I can look at wheel gun pics till I am blue in the face.

I would tend to agree with Randy for the most part that Roy Fishpaw's grips are worth the time and money, but only if one plans on keeping that particular pistol. If one is into trading or selling them, then I'd say no to putting that much effort into grips. You can't swap them to another frame and expect them to fit like they do on a frame they're serial numbered to, they fit that tight and about as perfect as perfect can be. I wouldnt believe you'd be likely to get $300 more for that particular pistol if you're selling as the grips are made to your hand and your particular tastes. On another note he does have LOTS of wood that isn't French Walnut LOL. ;)

Mike... I've been taken over by 586 fever... I'm buying my third this week! There is just something about them that is so classic and modern at the same time, so serious business, so luxurious to shoot, so dang sexy in black! Stainless guns are more practical for sure, but they don't hold a candle to a blued gun for flat out hot looks. It wasn't too long ago that my revolver collection was all stainless and I noticed a serious lacking, no matter how many stainless guns I bought... I discovered that was because I didn't have enough blued guns! Now I'm trying to make up for lost time. ;)
