With that number I could have dated the grips a little more closely. I don't need the prefix because it is a J frame so with the number, not a comment about what it is, we might be able to pinpoint a little closer than 72-83. So what is the actual number that is imprinted on the grips?

Xavierbreath, I love the grips on your smith. I'm guessing from the color of the grips that stag grips take on more of a honey color as they age.

22/32 Kit Gun - the Pre-34
Just picked her up from my FFL today. She's a little rough cosmetically, but oh-so-sweet where it counts. Pinned, recessed, flat latch, round butt with matching # diamond magnas. My first S&W adjustable-sight model. I want more 22s now. Serial number 190xx puts her somewhere between 1955 and 1959, probably toward the earlier part of that range.

Pietta 1851 Colt Navy repro, .44
I actually took these pics so I could show my younger brother and sister what they'd be firing when they come up for my wedding next month. My brother has some firearms training but it'll be my sister's first time.(worry not, there's other choices for them, but this is a revolver thread)

That is one of the finest examples I have seen. Whooooosh, man that's nice!
Easily one of the all time greatest revolvers made. I picked one up from a retired police officier. It's in great shape with limited wear, doesn't even look like a duty gun.
Your's however is in a different league.

Thank you. I honestly had no idea it looked that nice. It was the cheapest 28 I found at the dealer, but it did have the most blue left. There a couple of marks on the top strap (conveniently not in photos) that make me think the original owner(s) may have...dropped it.(cringe)
I'm sorry to disappoint, but I do fire her. I also clean her after every range trip, and keep her locked up in the mean-time. I wont use it for carry, nor will I ever abuse it.
I bought this model for my first because of their reputation for lasting a lifetime. I also like the fact that many of the features were removed without compromising quality. All utility no frills.

Ehi Matt, I must believe F.lli Pietta revolvers have market in USA too! I didn't think. Before the obsession for the BFR I was looking for new model Navy in .45 LC: Pietta brothers decided to make this kind of revolver (that we cannot name "repro" because it never existed in old west) to honour Sergio Leone western movies... the famous "Dollar Trilogy", you know?
In Italy western by Sergio Leone are much more succesful than John Wayne or Kirk Douglas american movies.

Nice guns, guys. I've heard so much talk about how great Rugers are, so I decided to finally get one. Here's the stainless Ruger Speed Six .38 I found. I gotta say... this gun is a beast! I'm liking it already, and I haven't even shot it.
