revolver spits in my face

if things go strange check the barrel and cylinder first with a strong light. also think about not pushing plated 240gr rounds over 1400fps. more fun to shoot them at 1350fps. that is why i said before check your bullets before you load them take nothing for granted. its your gun and your face so always think before doing.

You may be pushing them a tad fast, but it sounds like the forcing cone may need some work. I'd hit up Ruger for a call tag and let them figure it out. Have you contacted the company you bought the slugs from? They may have powder/velocity restrictions or have info about a bad batch making it through QC.

contacted xtreme bulet company - they insisted on sending me replacements, and that 1500fps is their design limit. I'm waiting to talk to their tech, and he's looking for smples from the questionable lot. In the mean time, I'm gonna make a trip to the range and test out some older known-good loads to rule out the revolver.

doh - sorry to hear about the surgery! So a fragment made it out the cyl gap, and into your face?

plated bullet
Reduce load.
..........

despite the fact the last 1000 rounds were fine? and manufacturer specs them to 1500fps, and they were flying at 1430fps?

I'm not trying to be cocky, but the real question is if all plated manufacturers overstate their products capabilities. or have big QA problems, in which case you're right, I need to load to their minimum specs.

thanks,

So on further inspection, my old rounds were, in fact, separating, just to a much lesser degree. So yup, need to download after all.

.44 240gr:
23.0 H110 1400fps... 20% separation
19.0 2400 1260fps... 0% separation

Shot 20 of each. I'm off to buy Aliant2400, saving the H110 for the Oregon Trail Hard Cast lead.

cool,
