I'm a newbie to reloading, and I'm getting ready to reload .45 ACP for my RIA tactical. My question is the following: generally, around what OALs allow JHP to feed reliably in a RIA tactical? There's very little information online about others' experiences specifically with the tactical. I have read about the drop test and will try it once I have some completed reloads.

Thanks!

Which bullet would help.

Somewhere in the 1.225 to 1.245 O.A.L. I would think, depending on the bullet.

If you have the bullet you will be loading, I bet someone here loads it and can give you a good idea where to start.

Thanks for the responses! I will be using 230gr rainier leadsafe plated hollowpoint bullets (not jacketed hollowpoint...oops) (MidwayUSA link). I checked out rainier's website, and this is what they said:

"We, at Rainier Ballistics, recommend using lead bullet load data when loading our bullets. There is no need for adjustment when using lead bullet load data. Our bullets are jacketed using an electroplating process and are softer than traditionally jacketed bullets; hence the recommendation to use lead bullet load data."

thoughts?

I realize your asking about JHP's or plated, but here's some food for thought. I cast my own 200gr hp's from an MP-Molds cramer style 2 cav mold. The bullet is rather short at .580. I arrived at an OAL of 1.210 using my RIA's barrel as a gauge. With 4.5 gr of WST, it's probably the most accurate I've shot through this gun off hand. Not that I'm all that accurate to begin with. :)

I dont have a tactical, but I do have the CS. I load XTPs to 1.245, and can run them all the way out to 1.270 for the chamber. Any longer than 1.260 and XTPs dont feed in the mag right though.

Berry's JHP and RS bullets are what i loaded when i started. I loaded to 1.22, and that worked in my tactical. 1.25 was too long, 1.22 worked, I never tried anything in between. I have since switched to 230 gr RN.
