I wanted to build a medium weight deer hunting rifle for all around deer hunting. I am left handed/left eyed so there are not many options on the used racks around here.

I picked up a Savage 110 LH in .270 for $225.00 on Gun Broker. It appears to be lightly used and has a good bore. It started life as a detachable mag rifle. I have never been a fan of this format for a hunting rifle so I ordered the parts to convert it to a blind internal mag. I bought my stock from Stockade Stocks. It has a full length aluminum internal frame from one sling swivel hole to the other plus machined aluminum pillars to support the action. I selected the "money saver" Hunter model. It was $135.00 and did require some basic Bondo work to fill pin holes and mold marks. I found it an excellent "drop in" fit and glass bedding probably won't be required.
I already have a set of high Warne rings but I need to pick up a one piece scope base so the extra long bell of my old Leupold 3.5x10 Vari X III 50mm will fit properly. Once I get to shooting if the factory .270 barrel does not group to my satisfaction I can pick up a match grade barrel from a number of companies for a little over $200.00 and install it myself. You have got to love the Savage modular, no gun smith needed, design. If I have to rebarrel I may go with 6.5x55 as I already have a set of benchrest style dies, brass, powder and bullets to jump right in on that chambering.
Oh so little time and so much to do.........deer season is only seven months away.
