Hey guys my name is Marcus and I'm New to rifle hunting. New York just opened a big chunk of the state to rifle for deer so i picked up a t/c venture .270 and I'm shooting 130gr corlokt or hornady interlock (depending on availability). Any thoughts? Am i on the right track?

Hi Marcus, wny hunter here also. 270 is plenty of gun for the deer around here and the ammunition is fine. I have found that even though areas have opened up for rifle (and I use one) the distances are still fairly short due to trees and brush.

I believe shot placement is key no matter what your pointing at the target, have you decided on optics? For what its worth i suggest not going to high in power I like a 1 to 4 x and its usually set at 1 for the areas I hunt, i just dont get a chance to take long shots.

Well no matter what you decide good hunting this season, its really feeling like fall out there and it won't be long now.

I have a 3-9x40 Leopold that ive used on my 12ga 870 with ssts. I backed it down to a 2-7 for the woods and the .270 is for open fields (100-200yds) I hunt orchards of Wayne co. So i do have good shooting lanes
