Instead of buying my next rifle. I'm considering building one. (hey i could use a new hobby anyway right?)

I'm looking for information on how to build a rifle and where I can get parts. What would be the easiest to put together? So far I've look at FAL and AK varients.

I really don't know where to start. I've found some places that sell parts kits and others that sell recievers. I kinda know the laws of U.S. parts regulations but not fully.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be most helpful.

Thanks.

The M14 type rifle has the fewest parts of just about any "combat type" rifle, less than the AK and far less than the FAL. Now, saying that, the AR-15 in my experience is the easiest to build. I have never tried the AK of FAL. LRB Arms sells complete USGI parts kits, minus reciever, for the M14. I advise you to skip the rest and build the best.

Ditto

The M14/M1A is a greatly overlooked rifle in a true BattleRifle caliber. It also has greater potential for accuracy than the FAL, IMHO.

LRB Arms also has a new receiver that should be out soon with built in scope rails in the receiver to eliminate the problems with scoping an M1A, if that is your desire.

Do i, you know you want a real BattleRifle....i await pics.

They all have their tricky bits. I would recommend going to the boards that specialize in those guns (FAL Files, AR15.com, etc) and seeing what the the folks there say.

ARs are easy to build. The only thing that requires a special tool is barreling. I built an AR out of spare parts during a slow gunshow once.

AKs there are a few different ways to go about it, including bending your own receiver flats.

FALs are a piece of cake except for getting the headspace right. You need to know what you are doing on that. But lots of good info is out there on how to do it.

I haven't built an M14 or a G3.

Having just tossed together my first AR-15 lower, I can tell you that at least that is a piece of cake. Just make sure you use quality parts.
