Rifle case lubes

Nothing is easier to use or more economical. ...
Hornady's Unique, which is applied in the same fashion and "very sparingly", is more economical.

A quick check at MidwayUSA showed that I could buy 2oz of Imperial for just under 9 bucks or 4oz of Unique for a bit over 5 (actually, the latter is on-sale right now for $3.99) ... which is probably why I decided to give the Unique a try first. ;)

BUT ... with either product the usage costs are negligible.

My current favorite is the Lee wax lube diluted in alcohol and applied with a spray bottle. I don't even bother to revive it from the cases after sizing, so it's perfect for bottleneck cases like 223 or 300 blackout in a progressive machine.

I use Mink Oil boot dressing. It's available everywhere, cheap and a tin lasts for years. I've yet to stick a case using it even when case forming. A little goes a long way. Only downside is you have to tumble the brass for a short time to remove it. But this is the case w/ Imperial as well. I personally don't like leaving any lube on the cases.

baby oil.

That is a new one! Seriously? I have wondered if anyone actually use the Lanolin cream found in baby supplies while several case lubes are made of lanolin, baby oil is definitely a new one to me.

it's just scented mineral oil. gives the reloading room a different kind of smell! i also use it to lube the press and wipe fingerprints off the guns. i have a feeling most gun oils are mostly mineral oil.

i wash the cases in dawn dish washing liquid and hot water after the case prep stage, so no oil gets around the primer/powder.

All I ever use is LEE resizing lube straight from the tube . It has worked on everything I've loaded from 380 to 30.06 . I have never stuck a case yet after many thousand rounds .

This isn't meant to offend or knock anybody since we all have our favorites but I don't get it when people talk about using this or that homemade case lube in order to save money when the cost of most commercial lubes is less than negligible. I'm on my second ever tube of Lee lube and on my second can of Imperial and I've lubed every case I've ever sized which numbers in the tens of thousands.

I've used perhaps a half dozen different case lubes over the years. Started out will all steel pistol dies so lubricant was a necessity. Of them all for large rifle cases from .308 to .300 Win mag Imperial sizing wax has become my favorite. RCBS has a similar product, probably the same thing with their name on it.

The spray lubes and lubes applied by rolling the cases on a lube impregnated stamp pad are quick to apply but the die wax is the best lube with a little bit allowing easy sizing even with heavy belted magnum cases and a touch on a Q-tip works well to lube the inside of the case neck.

Lube

I use the Dillon when doing a lot of rifle cases. The one shot gets a dusting when using my 650 and handgun. The Hornady Unique is a pleasure to use with rifle. If I am just doing a box or so. It is cheap and the tub lasts forever. It is not hard to get off the brass or nasty to your skin.

I've used Cabelas spray lube for years. I have no idea who makes it for them. Yes, I stuck a .223 case with it when I first started reloading .223. No big deal but I started being more liberal with the amount used on that caliber and have never stuck another case.

I also reload 44mag using a carbide sizer die and have bum shoulders. A quick squirt of the spray makes sizing them much, much easier.

I quit using oneshot almost as fast as I started using it, first time I used it on a rifle case one stuck.

I use Dillon or a homemade lube of alcohol and lanolin that gives identical results.

^^^Yep, get the 100% Lanolin on Amazon, and the Heet (Red Bottle) @ Wally World.
Current cost this way is less than $4.00 per 13oz. mixture..12oz. Heet/1oz. Lanolin.
Best of all--Works Great..Bill.

I guess it's just the satisfaction that you made something yourself that works as well/better than the Factory stuff...

Kind of like using wheel weights for casting bullets/powder coat painting them, when you KNOW that you can buy Factory made bullets...(Just NOT as Purdy) Bill.

You're going to laugh, but I use PAM non-stick spray. 25-30 cases in a Ziploc bag, a couple of good sprays, tumble them around a bit and set them out and let them dry. 6.5CM, 308, 5.56. Works every time and if I run out, I know where the kitchen is. Tumble it off in crushed walnut shells.

Lee case lube , if you like spray application , dissolve as much lee lube in denatured alcohol as it will hold , put it in a spray bottle and spray the cases , let dry .
The Lee lube is a wax that cleans up with water....it will not contaminate powder and just wips off easily.
For serious sizing jobs STP will do the deed best . A bit greasy , but it will lube them with out sticking .

I like the Frankfort spray, lube seems to work well for me, quick, dump cases on an old cookie sheet, spray wiggle around, good to go.
No stuck case so far........

There used to be a cooking spray made by Wesson that came in a pump spray (not pressurized) bottle. It was pure soy lecithin. I think it was one of the best case lubes I ever used, but you still had to wipe it off.

I still think the Lee wax in alcohol is the best for volume resizing.
