Hello all. I am wanting to explain how to adjust the front sight on a rifle. If everyone agrees with my wording please let me know.

Assume that the rear sight is fixed and the user wants to adjust the windage and elevation on a rifle.

1. If rifle is shooting low then lower the front sight post (raise bullet impact).
2. If rifle is shooting high then raise the front sight post (lower bullet impact).
3. If rifle is shooting right then move the front sight post to the right (move bullet impact to left).
4. If rifle is shooting left then move the front sight post to the left (move bullet impact right).

The opposite is true when adjusting a rifle or pistol with a fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight.

Reason I am doing this is that I have seen lots of confusion on this subject.

You are correct. But most open sights on rifles have a left-right adjustment for the front, usually a dovetail slot. If you run out of down play with the rear, you need a taller front.

Easiest way to remember:
Move rear sight the way you want bullet to go.
Mover front sight opposite way you want bullet to go.

As stated earlier:
Move the rear site in the direction you want to go. Move site to the right to move POI to the right.

Move front sight the opposite direction you want to go. Move front site up to lower POI.
