Does anyone make a drop in trigger assembly that will turn my sloppy shotgun trigger into a crisp rifle like trigger?

I use this gun more for slug gun hunting now and want to get a better trigger for cleaner shots and better accuracy. I cant seem to find anything out there

I've seen some, but they're not cheap. Usually, they're for shotgun competition.

This guy will do a trigger job if you send the assembly to him for $45.

I have no idea what the results are like, but if someone knows what he's doing, there's no reason why he couldn't do this for the price, since he doesn't have to do any work to get the stuff out of the gun.

Call him, I suppose.

This thing might also be worthwhile, to change the crude little trigger of the 870 into one with a wide, contoured and grooved surface. Nothing required, just tighten a setscrew.

that does look interesting, i'll have to look into that. Nice wide fat trigger would feel good too tho.

I have a similar problem with my swedish mauser...has way too much creep in the trigger, then you feel the set point, and alittle bit more pressure, it goes off. I dont like it. Makes it hard to consistantly get off clean shots. I know i need more practice with it, i havent shot it alot.

That is a two-stage military trigger, and it is a safety feature on the simple Mauser trigger design.

Much better triggers are available for it, but it involves a whole new trigger assembly that doesn't have bolt / striker slop figure into the safety of the trigger.

Any good gunsmith should be able to do a trigger job on your 870 and make it much more rifle-like for slug shooting.

Years ago, 870's came out of the box pretty much like that!
Then, the lawyers and sloppy manufacturing gave us what you get today.

Allen Timney made a drop in TG that had either a release or pull trigger. Some may still be available.

A couple 870s here have clean 3 1/2 lb triggers. One needed work to get there, the other was just like that.

A shoe can help. I don't have them on my "Serious" 870s because it's just one more thing to go wrong. I do have them on my wingshooting 870s and the Beretta.

BTW, between them, the worst 870 trigger is less than the pull weight of the Beretta.

funny you mention that cuz i do have an older 20 gauge standard weight wingmaster and a newer lightweight frame 20 gauge wingmaster, but i still think its fairly old, and BOTH of them have crisp triggers. the older gun is very crisp but has abit more pull weight to the trigger. the newer lightweight has the trigger i'm after, its crisp but somewhat lightweight in pull. not much creep to it.

Both of my expresses, 12ga and 20 have the same trigger feel, lot of creep before it sets up and then goes off.

Is there a way to incorporate the wingmaster design into the expresses? I wonder if i can take it apart and look at the internals of each.

What Beretta, Dave?

Hell, you can just drop the trigger group from the standard weight Wingmaster into the gun if you want.

I'll have to check mine out. I consider the Beretta to be night-and-day better than my 1100, though probably more because of the awful feel of the 1100 than the pull weight, but haven't tried the 870 in a while. The 686 works well as a shotgun, and I have no plans to use it for slugs.:)
