Hey all,

I purchased a mid 80s Marlin 336 at a gun show not too long ago. The stock had been switched out for some thing that looks more like a kimber rifle, with tiger striping in the wood, etc and the blueing had been removed from the barrel and reciever. It actually looks real good - has an old western feel to it and I purchased it more as an ornament to hang in my home office than anything else.

Anyway, the barrell looks pretty good - its nice and shiny and all the rifling looks in place. However, I decided to take it to the range the other day and didn't land a single shot in the target. I took it back tonite, and decided to hang a bunch of sitting in targets to see where my shots were landing. Here's what I found.

Using 150 Grain .30-30 Winchester Powerpoints
The bullets were dropping 13-15 inches from the point of aim at 25 yards.
The bullets were dropping 21-24 inches from the point of aim at 50 yards.

using 170 Grain .20-30 Winchester Powerpoints
The bullets were droppoing 15-17 inches from the point of aim at 25 yards.
The bullets were dropping 24-27 inches from the point of aim at 50 yards.

I didn't go out any further than that. Any idea what could be at play here? The rifle has normal Marlin peep sites on it. No scope. It feels well, and the shots were fairly consistent in their grouping (maybe a 3 inch group at 50 yards, but that it more me) butstill fell an awful lot from the point of aim.

Thanks
