Interested in finding a rifle shotgun under over combo. Looking to s33 who makes them still if possible. Want one in 12 gauge 30-06 or 12ga 308. Win

Any suggestions?

Savage 24F in 12ga/30-30. They run about $500 if you can find them. For the money, you are probably as well off with a 30-30 chamber insert in a 12 ga. If you get anninsert that's 12", you may be able to get minute of deer with it.

I doubt you'll find much sub $1000 in 12 ga/308. Those Baikal are strong enough and will be cheapest. A 12/30-30 can be built on a shotgun frame. A 12/308 requires substantially more strength given 308 pressures.

Another thought.........................

A few years back, before the old man died, Clark custom guns was making double rifles out of CZ side by sides. You might contact them about doing just one barrel. That would be a pretty unique firearm. It would be a combination gun that retains the clean sleek lines of a more traditional hunting gun. Plus have pretty respected quality.

If you have a double barreled shotgun now, and wanted a quick inexpensive conversion look at this. http://www.mcace.com/shotguninserts.htm
(check with them about the .30-06, as it is not in their price list, but in other places they mention calibers, like the .45-70, which they don't list either.)

Or these guys. http://www.gaugemate.com/

Similar, but more limited selection here. http://www.gunadapters.com/

These are probably a good option, if you can get them here.

Thanks Acera, I couldn't for the life of me recall where I got my 20 ga 30-30 insert. It was MCA (link provided by Acera above). Mine is a 10" insert for 20ga. It will do minute of deer and regulates to about 2" - 3" left and 2" - 2.5" low with Rem Corelokt 170s in my Zabala 20 ga SxS (left barrel). An 18" insert in 30-40 in a stout 12ga, if regulated reasonably well, would be pretty fantastic. It depends in large part how well the barrels of the shotgun are regulated.

RPRNY, do they have a way to adjust the POI to the POA on the barrel insert you have? Can you fiddle with the choke tube or something to 'tune' it better?

Thinking since you are probably limited in your effective range due to an inherent inaccuracy (just a bead front sight), a bigger heavier round might be a choice, like the .45-70. If you can keep it on a pie pan sized target at 100 yards, it might be a pretty good backpacker/survival combination. That would be good for most stuff from deer to bear at those moderate distances with the 12 gauge taking fowl and smaller game.

So, if you're hitting a choke tube, it's a real problem! The insert is just a chamber and xx" length of barrel milled down to fit inside the shotgun barrel with grooves to retain O rings. One forces the insert into the barrel - takes a few light hammer taps. Once it's in, that's that. If the barrel is regulated reasonably well, the insert will shoot near point of aim. If not, tough luck. Frankly, it's a novelty item. Patient work with slugs will likely deliver better results.

The best bet is to look for a Valmet 412 combo... You should be able to find one in the thousand dollar range and were chambered in both, 12-308 and 12-3006.

They were offered with many different bbls./configurations and are of excellent quality...

Mine in 12-3006 shoots VERY good,

The Savages aren't even on the same planet compared to the 412's... Even the Savage 2400's (Valmet made) aren't as strong as the 412's...

The Baikal's aren't as adjustable (regulation) as the 412's, and also aren't nearly as refined.

I picked a Baikal in 3006/12ga with a nice Nikon 3 to 9 for about $800 in trade. It likes heavy weight bullets 165 and above , shoot 3" at 175 yds ( the longest range on my place ). I have used the savage 24-V in .223/20ga . The 2 triggers are better than the hammer selector, IMHO
