Rifleman's assault weapon

One of my Platoon Sergeants at Ft. Campbell was part of the field testing unit for the RAW. He even was able to keep a non-explosive practice model. He told me that when compared to the LAW or M203 they were just too large and bulky for what they were designed for and passed over for consideration.

The United States as with most NATO countries had little interest in rifle grenades after the introduction of dedicated grenade launchers like the M203. A few companies tried updating them and I remember one Isreali company really investing in bullet trap rifle grenades for sale overseas. Alas, it never really took off though.

OOOh that is a blast from the past. I remember reading about that weapon about 25 years ago, in International Defence Review I think it was. Yes, I spelled defence right since that is a Jane's publication and they spell things Britishly :D

The launcher is removable, would probably be carried in a pack with the actual grenades. And it made a big hole in concrete bunkers, IIRC.

+1 what BartNoir and wideym said. I remember reading about and seeing pictures of the thing years ago (back when it was being R&D'ed, I suppose), but then it dropped off the map. Seems like a very cool idea at the impact end of things, but not so practical for the guys who have to haul around and use the thing.

3 pound HESH warhead? :what:

That sounds like an engineering charge more than a practical weapon. No kidding that'll poke holes in concrete.

I first saw it in an old book I have, Encyclopedia of world military power, Military Press 1986. It's got everything from ICBMs to the 1911, but is a very general reference guide, nothing like Jane's guides with all the detail. But it had this doodad, which was somewhat appealing. My book is the best reference I have though, I was hoping for something I could link to online. There's another place to check for this, I'll ask them.
