Rifles I'm glad I bought when I had the chance...

Im happy with all my rifles. One that i think highly of. Is my Remington 770. A lot of folks put them down. I got mine in 2008 -2009. The bolt was stiff yes. Now it falls open as soon as you unlock it. The rifle is very accurate too. Some times the black sheep in the family prevails.

I got this 1895 CBA several months after Remlin stopped production. I paid about $300 more than the MSRP originally was because I wanted this specific model and didn't want to take a chance that they would never be made again. I don't regret it a bit.

I got this Krag from a local pawn shop after watching it languish on the shelf for a couple years. Its probably my favorite rifle I own now.

This Lithgow 17 hmr is also a favorite. Was worth every penny. It was a wholesaler closeout from CDNN

I'd have to say my Marlin 1894CP in 357 Mag is one I'm happy I bought.I had a friend who was like a bloodhound at finding a certain gun,and he also had his FFL.When I saw the first picture of one,it became a must have and my old friend came up with one about a month after I told him to try to find one for me.Bought in 2002,it's now worth more than I paid for it new.I love to shoot it,and for close range deer hunting,180 grain Partition pistol bullets are wicked out to 100 yards, and it's surprisingly accurate. If I load 158 grain cast bullets in 38 Special brass at the low side of the powder charge,it's a great pop can blaster.I put a Lyman peep sight on it and with the Noslers,1 inch groups at 50 yards are possible.Short, light and well made,it's truly beautiful to me.

I've always been intrigued by the CZ-512 Semi-automatic in .22 LR,,,
I think it's a beautifully styled rifle and pleases my eye.

But I already owned two very nice .22 semi-autos,,,
I really couldn't justify the spending on another.

Then they came out with the CZ-512 Carbine,,,

That shortened barrel and the black dyed stock really caught my eye,,,
So, thinking that I didn't have a small-ish .22 semi-auto,,,
I ordered one for myself as a whimsical gift to me.

This little rifle performed perfectly right out of the box,,,
It ate bulk plated ammo as well as the lead sub-sonic stuff,,,
And seemed to be (even to this shaky old shooter) a very precise shooter.

It was a joy to shoot whether serious paper punching,,,
Or plinking at a 3" spinner.

In fact, I liked it so much that I gifted one of my other semi-auto's,,,
To the son of a good friend of mine.

I needed the space as I did decide to order a full size CZ-512 rifle in .22 LR,,,
The full size version performed exactly like the little carbine,,,
Eats all of the different ammo and places them on target.

So, here they are,,,

So why am I so glad that I bought them when I did?

It wasn't a year later that CZ decided to discontinue them,,,
After 2019 (?) these two beauties are no longer available in .22 LR.

They, and the scope ready American, are now only available in .22 Magnum.

Why CZ decided to do this is beyond my thinking,,,
But I'm sure that it had to do something with money/profits.

In any event I am extremely happy with my two CZ semi-auto's,,,
And feel very fortunate that I have them in my safe.

How's this for a bit of extra irony,,,
I eventually used up all of my Cabella Bucks,,,
I put a nice 3-9 x 40 Nikon scope on the little carbine,,,
And an even nicer 4-12 x 40 Nikon scope on the full size rifle.

Nikon got out of the rifle scope business within months of me buying them.

Go figure.

Rather than harken back to yonder days, I will say I am very happy I went on a minor binge when Walmart closed out their rifles Summer 2020. Thanks to THR enablers I bought multiple new Axis rifles, leupold scopes, slings, bipods, and rangefinders for next to nothing AND got rebate cards in the mail later to boot. I did not need any of them. I did enjoy giving one as a gift and now I have two extra decent loaners for when family or friends want to go hunting (if'n you deserve it the 770 is still available for lending too :p).

My Shiloh Sharps #1 sporter and dads when they both came in after a 6 year wait and dad could not buy his... and a bunch others but they stand out

Then they came out with the CZ-512 Carbine,,,
Another gun I was glad to get at the time, now no longer available.

Mine is the 512 American carbine with no sights and the 16-inch threaded barrel.

I bought it new online for $280 in 2019 and it has a 2017 date stamp – must have been wasting away on the warehouse shelf for two years.

Another one I was glad I bought - actually getting a 2nd chance at it - was the CZ .22 "trainer" that I bought from a good friend recently to give to my son-in-law. I handled one of those several times at the local Cabelas, when they were in stock. I couldn't believe how affordably priced they were for the obvious quality of the gun. But I never did buy one. My friend did however and then I never saw another one on any rack in any gun store after that. About a year ago, my friend decided he wanted a lever action .22 instead of that CZ trainer, not more than a week after my son-in-law asked me to help him find one. It was meant to be. I bought that rifle from my friend and gave it to my son-in-law, with the hopes that someday my grandson or granddaughter might learn to shoot with it someday. It worked out for everyone. Such a cool rifle. You just don't see many like that one anymore.

One of the mummy-wrapped, unissued Lee-Enfield No 4, Mk II's when they were on the gun show circuit for ~$200. I filled out my first 4473 for one just after turning 18 in early 1994.

I got a very nice, all-matching 1916 SMLE with a perfect bore for $89 in 1996.
We passed on a pallet of SMLEs from century back then. Cost was $49 per SHIPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We could not move the ones we had. I kept only one. A nice unaltered 1908 with a correct 1907 Quillioned Bayo/scabbard/.. Will have a LB number 4 on trader soon (admitted shameless plug). I think all the cheap radway green .303 ammo is still helping to drive prices up.

Mine is the 512 American carbine with no sights and the 16-inch threaded barrel.

I didn't even know the "American" version of the carbine existed,,,
I would have been sorely tempted as clearing the rear sight was a challenge.

But I probably would have bought the sighted version anyways,,,
I'm old school and a rifle with no iron sights,,,
Well, it just seems incomplete.

Scopes break.

T/C R55 Benchmark.
I have two: one was bought brand new for £450 in 2007 and the other was second hand, already £650 in 2012. Here in the UK those are sought after, since they are no longer made.
I had both rifles threaded for my suppressors. The above gun has a prototype adapter I am testing where the reflex tube of one suppressor is mated to another suppressor.
That gun gets a smile from whoever shoots it!

I really like the CZ 452s, 527s, and 550s, but they've all been discontinued. You can still get them in the used market but they often sell for 2 - 4x what they used to. I'm not inclined to buy more, but thankful to have what I have from those lines.

All of them....even the ones I wasnt 100% thrilled with lol.
Cant really say I have any grail guns, so stuff that pops up and is interesting/affordable gets snagged. Ill say that im REALLY glad i got in on some deals like my S20 with both stock sets, or my A-bolt 2 in 7 Mag on close out from Sports Authority....stuff like that.

Bought a cz527m in 7.62x39 for full list price. Not a deal, but for $650 it was so worth it. Liked it so much a few years later I ponied up for another one in 223, this one the varmint rifle. Just over 700 for that one, but now that there discontinued, it's money well spent.

I'll go in a
2022-01-19_16-41-45.webp
different direction the one I'm glad I bought is my .54 cal 1854/66 Wanzl Jaegerstutzen. Packs a punch like a short barrel cannon and a hoot to shoot. I swiped the pic but mine is in deep storage and much better shape.
