With mag ban possibly coming and my interest in firearms never going away, I'm considering buying more guns. Since I already have AR's and AK's, I'm racking my brain thinking what else is out there for rifles that uses mags that holds more than 10 rds and are not AR or AK pattern mags?

Also, I would like these mags to be easy to acquire and not expensive, rare, or otherwise hard to find.

Best I can think is Mini 14 and M1 Carbine.

Surely I'm forgetting something.

M14, CETME, H&K 91/93 pattern, Galil.

You may also consider belts, disintegrating or otherwise. I know some states with mag capacity bans address belts that hold more than 10 rounds.

Cetme/G3/HK91 pattern mags are cheap.

HK93( or whatever the 5.56 version of the 91 is)

SKS

FN FAL

Steyr AUG (might actually use AR mags?)

Mini-30

M14/M1A

Vz.52

10/22

Thompson

MP5

AR57/PS90

Calico

Glock or Colt mag AR carbine

Um… how is it you are neglecting that the last ban had absolutely nothing to do with AR’s, but rather prevented sales of ALL mags over 10 rounds?

How is it you’re neglecting that most of the current ban states include magazine capacity restrictions which are ALSO not restrictive of only AR or AK magazines.

Because I have plenty of AR and AK mags and am not concerned. What does concern me is rifle mags I don't currently have.

The commitment from the anti-gun politicians for the last decade and a half since the Federal AWB sunset has been “no grandfathering.” Your strategy is a sunk boat, before it hits the water - which may be a convenient place to store your prospective targeted firearms.

I got a better place for them than that.

Only thing I will point out is it is the "high capacity magazine" deal that they are after, nothing is set in stone yet, and hopefully never will be, but at the moment depending on who you ask that 1972 Marlin model 60 that holds 14 could be illegal. Same with ole Bill Ruger's no one needs more then 10 rounds 10-22.

Also most of the things already brought up in this thread are "assault weapons"....evil weapons of war. Again depending on what happens is going to hit those very hard.

The funny thing is I doubt things like the Mini series is going to be hit, as they are just not "scary" and not "military" weapons.....and yes I know.....but smart knowing people do not make these laws idiots that know nothing about the subject do....another thing to keep in mind.

I am sitting here thinking as well, and I can't think of a "non military" pure sporting rifle short of the 10-22 with a detachable magazine that holds over 10 rounds....there are a few odd ducks out there, I have one of those STG 44 22 knock offs, but it is one of those odd ducks.

I can't think of a sporting rifle of any kind that holds over 10 rounds....something designed as a sporting rifle from the get go, and that cuts out the mini series.

That is false.

The FAL and CTME

Why would you invest in a rifle that doesn't use the most common and affordable mags on the market in such uncertain times?

Depends on your likes. I like old things, and I doubt I would walk into any gun shop and grab a carcano clip, or steyer off the shelf....hell bet you could not grab a garand clip. If you want to do just magazines, I bet you would have issue walking in and finding carbine mags.

All of those old "weapons of war"....that seems to be the new term now for some of these nuts, need what can only be called uncommon loading methods. I have never let that stand in my way on getting something that I want.

Regarding FAL mags --- avoid DSA and Korean mags. Stock up on Belgian or Austrian surplus mags (for the metric-pattern guns). This is experience speaking.

Don't forget the Ruger American Ranch, and Mossberg MVP
I have thought about getting the Ruger 7.62x39 American, but what's kept me from doing it is the Mini 30 mags. I would hold out for a bolt rifle that uses AK mags, but nobody wants to make such a thing apparently, even if it was designed specifically for use with Magpul, Tapco, or Arsenal mags only.

IMO, Having uncommon rifles that take uncommon magazines will be more of a hassle than it's worth if you're talking 2A purposes. If you're interested for collector purposes, buy whatever strikes your fancy.
