Rifles that don't use AR or AK pattern magazines

I have thought about getting the Ruger 7.62x39 American, but what's kept me from doing it is the Mini 30 mags. I would hold out for a bolt rifle that uses AK mags, but nobody wants to make such a thing apparently, even if it was designed specifically for use with Magpul, Tapco, or Arsenal mags only.

There was a company that did, once upon a time on a scaled down SMLE action if I remember right.

The only legislation that will pass has to include grandfathering since it wouldn't survive the first court challenge on depriving a citizen of property.

This seems to be an opinion without much bearing in the modern era, since it is refuted by the precedents set in several of the existing ban states.

Since I already have AR's and AK's, I'm racking my brain thinking what else is out there for rifles that uses mags that holds more than 10 rds and are not AR or AK pattern mags?

If you want to be mag ban safe, you need a beltfed…

You guys hang in there. They are banning handguns over here. I guess I will have to learn to use my bō at some point, even my katana will be illegal here!

In Remarks #26, hso pointed something out.
On the national/federal level, with the "devil in the details" and limited 'political capital' for many Senators, it's like goading an elephant up a mountain trail. Hannibal's army did it, but that's been pretty rare. It's not worth the concern.

But people/businesses who sell magazines and rifles might Tell You to panic about it! $$ There are quite a few sellers stuck with products, are there not?
:) Maybe thousands of people...?

However, it could soon be different in a random state capital it they try to sneak in any smaller mag capacity limits.

OP: If you Don't live in one of the Unfree states there is very little chance that this will be an issue.

All the proposed mag bans include belts (granted, as an afterthought). With disintegrating links, you can get around this by linking up no more than 10 rounds (or whatever the limit is) at a time. Non-disintegrating links (like the belts for the German MG 34 or 42), or cloth belts, present a problem. Browning guns can use disintegrating metal links although they are harder on the trunnions than cloth belts.

Tell that to those who used to have bumpstocks.;)
There's a difference between bumpstocks that were not owned by many people at the time vs the most common magazines in use and have been in use for decades.

Pssst, it's not a magazine brand ban, it's a magazine capacity ban.

Personally I think the whole bumpstock fiasco is an important lesson.
First time I ever saw anti-firearm legislation that did not grandfather anything, and actively forced owners to surrender their own property without compensation. Then the law didn’t hold up in court. Now as of today, not sure where this stands. Just cause a judge says the law isn’t enforceable is not a guarantee a branch of the government won’t continue to try to enforce it. It sets a precedent in future court battles, but doesn’t repeal the law. So if it’s you, you’re still on the hook for court & legal fees, even if you’re sure to get off. That’s a pretty effective deterrent.

I'm considering buying more guns. Since I already have AR's and AK's, I'm racking my brain thinking what else is out there for rifles that uses mags that holds more than 10 rds and are not AR or AK pattern mags?

Also, I would like these mags to be easy to acquire and not expensive, rare, or otherwise hard to find

Cetme/G3/HK91 pattern mags are cheap
This is the correct answer, and it addresses a possible hole in the arsenal too.

You mean like red flag laws, something that hit a 100% in the supreme court saying....Nope this is against that pesky constitution thing. All it takes is the same thing it took for the last two years....an emergency.....and poof rammed through, and the law of the land....till someone somewhere says....ahhh wait a sec, you mean you can take my personal property just because the guy across the street made a call and said I was crazy.....all I did was ask him not to blow grass on me when I am getting the mail.......you mean laws like that.

I’d recommend a VZ-58. Surplus aluminum mags in very good shape are still available for $20 last I looked.
Also new polymer mags from Fab Defence & AC Unity.
Has a proper BHO action. Smaller & lighter than an AK in a milled receiver. CZ -USA is still importing new ones so mags & parts are easy to find. Good aftermarket support too.
Shares absolutely no parts with an AK.
If you’re on a budget, the older Century built VZ-2008s were built on surplus receivers and Green Mountain barrels.
