I have never, ever, forgiven myself for missing out on a deal that I walked away from just 4 years ago in Maryland, of all places.

A guy was selling 3 brand new in the box, unfired French MAS 49/56s in the original 7.5mm French chambering complete with sling, oiler, ammo pouches and night sight attachments.

The asking price was..........$180 each.

I doubt I will ever recover, my wife was practically begging me to buy one, if I could go back I would have taken all 3.

A used 49/56 will cost you $500 today, lord knows what a NIB would cost. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

For me, it was all the M1A's, M1 Carbines and M1 Garands I turned my nose up at in the 80's. Also there was a pair of Galils, (one 5.56 one 7.62) that I could have had for $850.00....Then there were all those C3's I bought and sold...The list is nearly endless and painful... :(

A .308 Savage 99 at a local pawn shop for $200

Beautiful rifle but I wasn't familiar with them

I asked another pawn shop owner I knew about it
Apparently he believed the price was right because he beat me to the other shop and bought it.

And also all the M1 Carbines they used to practically give away the Liggetts drug store in Apopka back in the 89's

Newton, any chance that potential deal was somewhere near Frederick, MD?

The reason I ask is because about three years ago a pristine, unfired etc. MAS appeared on a local consignment rack at a gun shop in Mt Airy, MD. The story I was told was that it was a guy who was desperate to unload them who liked in/around Frederick. The asking price at that time was about $250.

Yes !! It was a gunshow held right by the side of I-70 of the way to Frederick, sort of a county fairground type of place.

What a small world, you actually saw one of those MAS at a nearby gun store - amazing.

I'll always wondered what happened to those guns, thanks for filling in at least one of the blanks for me.

I should have bought a dozen or more M1 carbines years ago.

Everyone has on occasion had that "If I could go back in time" fantasy. Just surplus magazines alone would be a money maker. What if you had a warehouse full of US GI M14 mags?

Wish I had bought the NIB Hungarian SA 85M I ran across for $300.

I've come across deals now and then, but that was a pretty good price for a very well made rifle.

Back in the days, long ago, when I was driving from home in the central Adirondacks to school in Albany, NY, I used to stop for gas in a small store in Pottersville, NY. The store had a small gunrack somewhat hidden in the back.

One trip through, I noticed a like new Beretta BM-59 Ital in the rack, but no magazine...

While not cheap, the rifle was priced quite fairly (even for a struggling student)...

I didn't pick it up because I wanted to make sure that I could find magazines for it before I bought it. Of course, my trip through the next week (with me planning on buying it) found the rifle gone...

I still kick myself over that one...

Wow, I have one of these way in the back of the safe, pretty good condition. It's been converted to 308. I haven't fired it in about 5 years, paid around $200 for it 10 years ago. Is $500 an average cost for one that's been rechambered?

I mulled over buying a NDM-86 (Chinese Dragunov) from CDNN in 2001 when I had plenty of money (no wife or kids) but thought $1700 was too much.

Im up in years but well remember the Lugers, P-38's, k98's and Colt 1911's that were on the surplus market in the late 40's. Some minty. 10 to 25 dollars. Only problem was that back then 10 to 25 dollars was more than a chunk of change.

Chinese SKS. bayonet and all.
i regret not WAITING to buy some things too though.

its a win/loose some times

Wish I had bought:
03A4 in 1995 for $750 with the scope.
M1D with scope for $600.

Wish I did not sell:
Colt 70 series, in box, in mint condition.
Colt Buntline in .22

I can't really complain too much. Most of the guns I have purchased were at good prices.

I regret not being able to talk my dad into buying a saiga 12 from Dunham's for 190.00.

I regret passing on an '03 Springfield for $400.00 in 1998.
I kick myself every time I think about it.

OUCH!:banghead:

SAI M1A accurized (REAL tackdriver) for $1,000.00 in 1985.

hehe big suprise there

But don't forget that in Napoleon they also produced the world's greatest general

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Didnt Nappy lose to a guy that was more famous for boots and steaks?

I would submit that France did produce the best "citizen-soldiers" of the time period, and Nappy used them as cannon fodder. If he cared as much about his men as he did his "Empire" France might be a real world power today.

1898 Krag Carbine in absolutely perfect shape, guy wanted $30 for it, I offered $20 and walked away. My buddy (thought he was anyways) walked over gave him the $30 and took the carbine. This of course was back a few years (1982), he just sold the carbine for $2500 at an auction!

C&S Metall Werkes Fleming Sear in an original HK MP5 PDW for $5,000 in 1997! Only two problems—I was 17 and neither my Dad or I had 5k.
