Rimfire rifle ???

Kids are a difficult task and shooting is not a sport for the undisiplined.... it has been my experience, as a kid, a dad and a military leader that the most effective punishments are doing something they don't like to change a behavior... I recall as a punk teen getting in trouble and having to move 4 trees for my dad.... 4 new giant holes. Digging out 4 big trees with roots to move, and having to griphoist them up on the trailer... built character and blisters...

Seems like a dirt cheap 177 pump airgun is actually what is called for here. A hands-off open invitation of "do you like target shooting enough to follow up with more serious equipment?" with absolutely minimal investment on your part. Kids are fickle.

Or just because you were invited to a more fancy party doesn't excuse one from going to work.

Its not an excuse but still a pretty good reason.

The CZ groups posted in this thread aren’t exactly world beating. What am I missing?

I did not post a group in this thread but did in the prove it thread. I have two match winning CZ 452's that with the right ammo shoot sub MOA at 50 yards or better consistently. Most groups are one hole. I have just bought a CZ 457 that I expect to do so as well. There is a reason that CZ's are by far the top choice in sporter rifle competition in the sub $1000 price range. It may take some adjustments and ammo testing to get there but they generally shoot great. If not in the newer versions, barrel changes are easy. Tikka is also a good shooter in that range. Yes you can jump up in price and get a higher-level rifle like a Rim-X or Anschutz but it also takes skill, great ammo and money to get there.

Well the issue has been solved though not as expected.
My daughter has a habit of grounding punishment for every little thing under that sun that doesn't strike her fancy. So last week I finally put it to her this way. I wanted a reassurance that once started this would not be interrupted by a hysterical grounding and that he could not go that week. My contention being that he starts, he finishes, uninterrupted. You make the commitment and you follow through with that commitment. Well she could not agree to those terms so sadly I just canceled the whole affair. I will not be shooting either.

Sorry to hear that your plans were cancelled. One of my SILs likes to throw a monkey wrench into plans for my grandchildren as well. I have no idea what happened to the guns i gifted him and them. Just that they were dismantled and parts hidden for safety.
