where I go fishing I am hounded relentlessly by skeetos. do you think #12 would thin them out a bit? funny thread i know but if this would work it'd make for a much more pleasant experience.

No, I don't think it would thin them out.

And all that shooting in all directions would surely scare the fish away.
As well as the other fishermen.

No. But it does work on dragonflies. Many a boring dove hunt have reduced to the desperation of shooting them. Not much meat on em though... ;)

Deet... and maybe a headnet will help to make it tolerable. :)

Deet's pretty good. ive developed a little vendetta with these suckers. i was hoping to take the 590 down there with a full tube and have a nice clear evening after implementing it. :p

dont worry guys, i wouldnt be unsafe with it. where i go im usually the only soul to be found.

If you're stationary, the therma cell has been getting good reviews for keeping those lil buggers away. Personally, I grab 100% deet and don't wear dark clothing, mosquitoes are attracted to black/dark clothing it seems

Dude just put on some bug spray, pants, and a long sleeve shirt. Don't forget your hat either.

Bugs suck, the sooner you get used to them the sooner you can set yourself free.

maybe flamethrowershells will work? as we were kids we used to fry'em with hairspray and a light.

I have a Crossman pump up 22 Cal. pistol, and two pumps and a big squirt of WD-40 down the barrel and it is death on anything that flies up to 3 feet away. I really like what it does to those big Japanese hornets on the patio.

+1 for Deet, never OFF, we used to use that to strip paint off the garage floor. Buy a head net if you want to, if its that bad. Smoke a stogie, the smoke should help keep em at bay. But if you were gonna go the shotgun route (which sounds exteme and dangerous) maybe try dragon's breath? hahaha

I'm hoping the OP is going to chime in here any minute with a "haha guys, just kidding!"

Otherwise, I do believe that my confidence in humanity may slip just a bit.

It's all about pattern density when shooting skeeters.
Twelve will work best out of a full or extra full (e.g. turkey) choke.
I'd suggest 1-1/8 oz (assuming 12 ga) loaded under 7,000 LUP as a starting point.
After some time patterning on paper, perhaps increasing the shot charge to 1-1/4 oz will help. I'm worried that pushing heavier loads might raise the pressure to a point of degrading the pattern.

Let us know how it works for you. Get on it, the season's waning.

half the naysayers in this thread probably haven't even shot #12 shot. theres more pellets in a load than there are mosquitoes, usually.

so i was asking if it was a viable means of pest control. its also effective only up to a few feet. its been known to merely knock some paint off a clay pigeon at a distance. Deet doesn't work the best on me. It's betetr than NOT using it, but they still get in. I agree its a pretty funny thread, but where I go theyre really, really bad. I didn't ask about using a duck load for mosquitos.

"12 Gauge Rio Top Sporting #12 Shot 2 3/4" 1oz Load Box of 25 Rounds, 2300 Pellets 3 Dram. Effective to 10 yards"

I'm not at all arguing with any serious replies in this thread, but TWENTY THREE HUNDRED pellets seems like it'd do nicely on a cloud of unwanted bloodsuckers

You'd be surprised how they survive - we used to interrupt our night league when the moths would come out because of the lights. damn near point blank range and most survived - you'd think the concussion itself would have done it....:what:

skeeters are tiny........

you're probably right. that's the only thing that makes me wonder the 12 shot would have an effect. this is probably one of the funniest threads in the section in awhile, but I'm tired of getting bit lol

You could try a few of those Citronella candles. They seem to work great for me.
