New (but old/pristine 1979 vintage) REM 1100LW Skeet-T
RIO 410 2-1/2" Skeet loads.
Primers regularly backing out to the point of dropping into the action. Tried two different manufacturing Lots. Same result.
Spent primers were so loose that I could push them in or pull them out w/ my fingers.

AA and inexpensive Estate shells totally Normal.

Anyone else have similar experience here ?

I don't have experience with either the gun or the ammunition you mentioned but I have used Rio shells. I noticed that when I tried to reload them, the primer pockets were larger than Remington and Winchester.

I am told the cases are metric, and therefore normal 209 primers are too small.

The situation today, however, was with new commercial cartridges..

I would be contacting Rio if the primers are coming out of new factory loaded ammo. Something definitely is not right. It almost sounds like the used standard 209 primers instead of the correct metric primers.

Rio primers are bigger than every other 209 primer. If you are reloading Rio hulls, you must use Rio primers.

CCI, Federal, Remington, and Winchester 209 primers are 0.241"
Cheddite and Fiocchi primers are 0.242"
Rio primers are 0.245"

Information can be found here: https://www.ballisticproducts.com/Fiocchi-616-Shotshell-primers-209-size/productinfo/F616/

After I bought/shot their AA & Estate ammunition and stood the shells from all three case-brands up side-by-side, the LGS took the entire case or RIO ammo back & restored the credit charge.
You can bet they'll be contacting RIO.

As you can see from my previous post, there is a 0.004" difference in size between standard American 209 primers and the metric RIO primers. I don't even like using standard 209 primers in my Cheddite or Fiocchi hulls with just a 0.001" difference.

OP noted this was factory-commercial ...not reloaded... RIO 410 2-1/2" Skeet ammunition.

One other possibility is slightly excessive headspace but I doubt it.

I know that it was factory ammo that is why I said that I would be contacting Rio if it was me. I only mentioned about the size difference in primers to save people from headaches if they do decide to reload RIO hulls.
