A wiser man than I once said, it is better to cry once than over and over again. I didn't want to suffer through a cheap set-up for any amount of time.

After extensive review-hunting I had my holster choice down to a Sparks VM-2 but apparently I was not the only one. With a waiting period of 26 weeks, AFTER I wait until September 1 to place my order, I opted to find greener pastures.

So I took a break and focused on what most of the old-timers here focus on: a rock-solid belt. That was simple enough. 1.5'' tan bullhide. Then of course, despite the several warnings on the belt man website I botched the measurement and had to call to get a belt that would not require me to put on 2 inches in my waist. He said it happens all the time, but I doubt it.

Then it was back to holster searching. Lightningarms still has a boatload of Milt Sparks holsters but not what I needed for a commander 1911. I then got to looking at the Alessi holsters, which are pretty as can be. The PCH came highly recommended but again I did not want to wait months and I have a fundamental problem with paying premiums to get things quickly through lightning arms.

Then the plot thickens: Lou Alessi died and there were reports of the "new" Alessi company churning out some sub-par holsters. There was a man who apprenticed with him for something like 14 years named Ritchie who wanted to carry on making holsters the way he was trained to do. There was no shopping cart feature on the website, but I put in my info and they said they would contact me very soon. This was about this time yesterday and I thought something like 6 weeks would be wishful thinking before I saw anything.

Buuuuuuuuut, I just got off the phone and it will be here early next week! I never thought my holster would be here before my belt, but maybe I'll work up an appreciation for the double-thickness belt the hard way which is by torturing myself with a regular belt in the meantime.

As soon as the completed rig gets here I'll post some pictures. Maybe I'll have time to hit the treadmill so I don't have to buy pants an inch wider. This is just the tale of a CCW noob basing his purchases on other people's opinions.

Anyway, couldn't contain my excitement over being told my holster would be here one week after ordering. Have a good day, and be glad you're not in a constant 98 degree Alabama (and have been since early June).

Very cool.
And yes, carry on a regular belt so you can appreciate the fine product that the beltman is. My only mistake was waiting to long to get a beltman.
