'River of Guns' Flowing from U.S. to Mexico

I'm highly skeptical of these reports. I'd be willing to guess that 95% of all guns going into Mexico from the US are either a) stolen or b) being given to Mexico by our wayward government. And I've heard of more accounts of weapons coming in than going out; while that's no real metric due to likelihood of LEO to observe stuff leaving as coming, it still means something, I think.

and all we get in return is drugs, nice lawns, and cheap fast food.

I have the definitive solution to this problem.

Invade and annex Mexico the way influential Mexicans pleaded for us to do when we defeated them in the Mexican War.

The need for Mexicans to come to the US for work will instantly end, since they'll already be in the US. The dismantling of Mexican socialism will ensure that there are good jobs in former Mexican states.

Where can I find this river? I'd love to take a few buckets from it back home.

Detectives say the traffickers often make several trips a day over the border with a trunk full of weapons, selling them in Mexico for a markup of 300 to 400 percent.

Hrm, what could cause guns in Mexico to be sold for this much, thus giving the traffickers another source of income?

Call me silly or daft, but I am not seeing the problem here. Scum killing scum is ok with me. If the innocents in the neighborhoods don't like it, maybe THEY should do something about it.

You are silly and daft.

The innocents in the neighborhoods do do something about it. They come here.

Gun ownership in Mexico is strongly discouraged. Most Mexican citizens have little hope of obtaining a firearm legally. Furthermore, both the Mexican police and court systems are corrupt, and can't be relied upon to protect the average citizen.

The media is pushing the premise that most guns entering Mexico illegally are going to organized crime, while ignoring the fact that many of them are actually going to ordinary citizens.

"They are in the market for machine guns, hand grenades, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles . . . It's like they are outfitting an army," he added.

Is this ATF guy running for political office? As an ATF agent, I would expect him to know that the average American cannot purchase any of the items mentioned without great gubb'ment scrutiny. Another Moron the press is happy to quote. I'm not sure who is worse, the government or the press.

Mexican Attorney General Eduardo Medina slammed slack U.S. gun laws as "absurd."

Our slack government, that's funny right there, compared to Mexico, the US government looks quite honorable. And saying our government is honorable, is laughable.

With the proposed union of Mexico, US, and Canada, anyone want to hazard a guess as to which country's gun laws will be selected for the union? Maybe now is the time for the second amendment types to sign on to the union so we can influence the decision. :D

The guns were made popular by the late Juarez cartel capo Amado Carrillo Fuentes in the 1990s, whose monogrammed Colt encrusted with emeralds is exhibited in a drug trafficking museum in Mexico.
:scrutiny:

Only in Mexico you say?

Well, I looked in the washes headed south outof Tucson...no river of AKs, not even a trickle of Jennings... Darn.
When the AWB went into law, a big seizure was made of guns coming INTO this coutry, AUGs, now carried by Customs. Not too long ago, a bunch of ARs, handguns, ammo, and an M203 was intercepted coming INTO this country in Texas, IIRC. Hmm, sounds odd, doesn't it? And where is the civilian legal Stinger store? Not that I need one, but it would look cool over the mantle.:neener:

Oh, yeah - the two for one mexicans for guns is too cheap, we should up that to at least 5 to 1.
