Hello all! I have a cartridge that is similar to the 22-6mm rem. It is .176 longer case than the 22-6. Needless to say, it likes powders in the RL22 burn rate. I was just wondering if the vvn560 might give more velocity/ better accuracy than RL22. Thanks for any replies.

While I've never used N560, I have used both N160 and RL22 for 1,000 yard competition with my 6.5 Swede. I preferred the N160 due to it being a single base powder and easier on the throat. Don't know which of the 2 powders you mentioned will work better for you, but they are certainly comparable.

Don, is there any written information about a double based powder generating more heat than a single base powder? From what I could read most Winchester powders are double based and most Alliant powders are double based. I think the definition of a single based powder is that it contains only nitrocellulose whereas a double based powder contains both nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin.

That is correct, and they are harder on barrels, especially the higher nitro content ones, although I think the percentage of nitro varies more in pistol powders than in rifle. Maybe not though. Anyone know for sure?

USSR, have you noticed the much touted "temp sensitivity" of RE22 in your 6.5X55? I'm using IMR 4831, but I've thought about switching to RE22.

No, never had problems with "temp sensitivity". Actually, my first experience with RL22 goes back 16 years when me and another guy on the Snipers Hide website were looking for the ultimate long range .30-06 load. We were both convinced that there was a slow burn rate powder out there in which we could come up with a load that would drive a 190SMK at 2900fps out of our 26" Krieger barrels and remain within SAAMI pressure specs. I tried H4381SC and RL22, and quickly found that only RL22 could do it. H4381SC came up about 125fps short. I never tried N160 with the 190SMK load for my .30-06.
