I`ve always been a stickler for historically correct Revolvers , and my collection is complete ....When someone said the Ruger Old Army was the finest cap and ball Revolver ever built ..My reply was alway ..for who`s Army ??
So now they are no longer makeing the ROA ..and I start giveing them a closer look ..I shoot alot almost every weekend if it doesn`t rain , been pounding my Remingtons and Colt reproductions hard for the last few years they`ve held up well , much better than I thought they would .
I figure as much as I enjoy shooting cap and ball revolvers , why not step into the 20th century ..buy a cap and baller made in the 70`s ..1970`s ..might even wear tennis shoes when I shoot it ..and a base ball cap lol.
It would be nice to shoot one thats stainless steel has adjustable sights and can handle any load I want to put throught it ....and is probally the best cap and ball revolver ever made in the USA in the 20th century ..Hey that makes it historically correct ....now I feel better .......I just bought ONE ! ..can`t wait to shoot it !

I started to look for an ROA with the fixed sights ..but after thinking it over ..what the heck it`s not a reproduction ..why not shoot it for all it`s got to offer . It will be nice to adjust the POA with a screwdriver instead of a file .

I have a friend who may become a ranger on a corporate ranch. He's supposed to ride around, check the wire and keep an eye out for rustling. To scare off the coyotes, he will have two Ruger Old Armys (5 1/2") loaded with blanks.

Man shoot, I carry my Pietta 58' with the 5-1/2" barrel on the club property loaded with .457 ball just for Coyotes around here "and well a stump that needs correcting too."

Those ROA's are nice pieces, personally never owned one but have shot a few friends pieces & admittedly I do like em but like you have a hard time letting my self get one especially now since they no longer made & the prices keep going up.

It's pretty close to a Rem. New Army 1851 -- 'cept the Rem. has a single trigger/cylinder lock screw. The screw heads are on the other side of the Rem. And no target sights on the Rem. -- although target sights are an option.

Until, of course you open one up and look inside. Oh, and the loading lever catch is a bit different. And the bore. And the chamber size. And the forcing cone. And the grips.

Yep, just almost like the Remington....

I'm another die hard Rem man that fell by the Persuasion of Sundance buyin an ROA, and then asked a forum if I should on Auction buy sad ROA, Snaggletooth replied with a strong "Yes" on the ROA and Price ... so I thanked Snaggletooth and bought it Now...yesturday and paid on the Phone to Maine at 0715 today...fastest deal I ever made.
It is a collectable and probly of the best and most controversial C&B Revs made in the U.S.A.
