Road trip handgun

Max 9 in the space between seat and console, EC9S in door pocket ready to go under shirt when getting gas or potty stop!. IWB for the thin one.

My most typical EDC is a Ruger LCR in a cargo pants pocket. It's excellent for traveling because it's easily accessible walking or driving.

For hiking around here I kind of prefer a S&W 642 in the back pocket of jeans.

If I'm on a road trip I'll also have something like a Glock 26 or CZ75 compact in my backpack or suitcase.

If the OP has two German Shepherds, they are already pretty safe. I grew up with those dogs and they got me out of some tough situations. I currently have two large pit mixes that are adequate, but they don't have as much intelligence or protective instinct as my shepherds did.

Whatever I carry is definitely back up to The Pack!

Either the Glock 43X or my CZ SP-01. Both with an extra magazine and loaded with 147 gr Federal HST rounds.

They ride perfectly next to the seat belt latch between the driver seat and the center seat/ console of the vehicles I drive.

Stay safe.

What do you take along? Normal ccw?

I would take my normal carry.

Plan to hike where there are bears, but when we go they shouldn't be up yet.

1. Depending on where you're going

It was a crappy year for nuts and berries and other things that bears eat in Colorado this year. I'm betting that they went into hibernation late and they'll be getting up early. Especially because it's been in the 40s and 50s off and on. I wouldn't be so quick to assume that you won't run into any bears.

Having said that, I have never run into a wild bear that didn't take off as soon as they realized I was there. I never take food hiking with me and that maybe why they didn't show any interest in me.

I go hiking where bears are at all the time. I carry a Glock 19. For bears I'd recommend UDAP over any gun.

I am in Colorado so my response assumes that we are doing with black bears not grizzly bears

To be honest, something I wouldn't feel quite so bad about getting stolen can be a factor for me. I definitely don't tend to bring along my finest.

Common or even budget options (like a HRR/Wrangler) can serve well here.
Easily replaceable = good.

It really depends where I'm going.

If I'll be staying in urban areas and not doing much outdoor activities I'll probably keep a g42 on me at all times and a g20 by the bedside or center console when in the car.

If I'm going to be spending most of the time outdoors it'll probably be g20 iwb and a Mossberg 500 in my vehicle / wherever I'm sleeping. Only variation is if I'm headed to remote areas for camping and hiking I'm likely to keep my g42 in a pocket and my 5" super redhawk on my chest or belt depending, I'd bring a rifle too at that point but just as a more powerful option to keep wherever I'm sleeping free of unwanted guests.

I like the g20 for the good capacity with decent weight and fairly powerful cartridge. It's not a do all but it can adapt well between urban and rural roles and can be concealed - somethings a super redhawk struggles with.

Always like to have a little 380 available for 2 legged threats in urban settings but it's also useful when paired with a big revolver .

Man, I struggle horribly with the decision of what gun to take along on vacation.
LCP...smallest
HELLCAT...small yet sufficient
SP101 357 ....old school confident
MODEL 66 snub 357. ...pure bad-assery
1911 commander 45ACP.....Combat ready
I normally just take my edc HELLCAT 9mm. I am comfortable with it in about every scenario.
What happened to your Ruger SR9C? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Depends on where I'm going. We had planned a camping trip to Yellowstone this summer and had we gone I'd have carried my Smith M&P 10mm. But we will need to leave in late May and be back by mid-June. But that far north all of the snow isn't gone until late June, so we changed our plans to accommodate our granddaughter who is going with us.

I have to keep in mind that some states have mag restrictions. If travel through those states are in the plan, I won't be carrying my G19 or Sig M18. The Sig 365 could go, but I'd have to leave the 12 round mags at home.

If there are no big bear, or magazine restrictions my G19 or more recently the Sig 365 has been my go-to gun for traveling.

Last summer we drove to Maine and made a side trip to Niagara Falls. Getting a handgun through New York state was a risk I wouldn't take so I left all of my guns at home. Best I could do was a 7" Kabar and I wasn't even sure that was a good idea in NY.

Typically my LC9s in a pocket holster. If I am going camping it will take something more powerful than a 9mm. SP101, kahr P40, or Star PD in 45. Recently got a kahr CW45 that will probably get taken camping also.

I do have an SR9C.

It has been assigned to HD/farmstead/outdoorsman duties. The sr9c is an outstanding pistol. I keep it near my back door where my boots and coat are. It is in a go-bag with knife, flashlight, weapon light, and 88rds magged up.

Nice! I don't know anyone who has one who doesn't like it. I don't hear much praise for the full size, but that compact model seems to be universally loved.

I agree with everyone that chooses to carry their normal carry choice!! I like to also.

Now the enablers of THR would like to help you decide on what firearm to carry in your backpack, automobile, for hotel nightstand, or as a backup to your normal. Or all four extras just incase.
They can help you also with deciding on wilderness carry options.
I have 2- 357mags, 41mag, and a 44mag in revolvers and a 45acp. The THR enablers have helped in convincing me to add a 10mm of hiking out west

My Scamp will be in my pocket and one of the Glocks and a couple of mags will be in the console. The Wife may or may not have Her Springfield 911.

If I'm taking a trip where I'll basically be in a couple different threat environments, I'll usually take two handguns accordingly. By threat environments, I'm basically talking about outdoor hiking environment where I'm more worried about bears and other animal threats and your standard traveling environment where the threat is primarily from bad-intentioned humans.

I have an XDM 10mm compact for outdoor activities in bear country and then the other duties get handled by a 9mm du jour (P365, 3913, etc.). I definitely fight the urge to take 3 or 4 guns to have more options when I'm a long way from home but I usually resist that and try to limit myself to two.

The question is.....
Will you be attending a BBQ on your road trip?
Thanks farmer! I can switch out the grips on my 686+ 3" to the original wood deluxe grips. Maybe it is time to order a commander 1911 45acp that is all tricked out:thumbup:
Mrs WisBorn and I were talking about our next vacation and planning on grilled bacon wrapped pork tenderloin and steak kabobs for a couple of meals :p

I carry my primary carry gun, my Glock 19.

I don't go to AWB states but if I did I would be fine with my Glock 26.

If I was going to be doing a lot outdoors I might go with my Glock 20.

I'm on the fence about bringing a carbine. I like that my Ruger PC carbine shares mags with my G19 and can be broken down and concealed in a backpack. But I don't like the idea of leaving a gun in the car when out and about.
