Road Trip to Maryland

This always puts me in sort of a bind. I don't want to appear to be advocating any violation of the law, but at the same time perhaps I can make a practical point. MD law is strict on transporting a handgun. (Magazines are not an issue unless you plan to sell one in MD, but see below.)

But, if a driver does not drive recklessly or otherwise call attention to himself or his car, the chances of being stopped are near nil, and the chances of the car being searched (or a search requested) are even less likely. But make sure you remove any gun related materials, including magazines, both ammunition and print kind, from the passenger cabin. A trooper seeing a speedloader on the console was considered probable cause to search the vehicle; when a gun was found in the trunk, the driver and passenger were arrested.

I would play it safe and not take any handgun or semiauto long gun into Maryland.

I am always amused at how everyone seems to think that the minute you cross an imaginary line on a map that the cops have magical powers that will determine you have guns and they will pull you over and nail you to cross. Drive the limit, obey the law and go enjoy your family

Bring your guns and go shooting. Nothing you have described is illegal in Md. I went to a popular Md range yesterday. Pretty much the entire line was people merrily blasting away with AKs and ARs with 30 round mags. It ain't that bad here yet, but it will be eventually.
