That's an odd photo for having a 10 round magazine in it (I've yet to ever come across a 10 rounder that worked more than once.

You need better magazines. I put thousands of rounds through Wilson Combat 10 rounders in IPSC/USPSA competition and they worked just fine.

To the OP, I recently traded into one of the new Charles Daly 1911s made in Italy. I intended to pass it on, but kept it. Very nice basic 1911. Excellent finish, smooth trigger pull at about 6 pounds, slide to frame fit very good. I also once owned a Rock Island base model 1911, purchased about 15 years ago. It was a good pistol that my son now has and likes very much. Can't speak to the recent ones except they seem to get good reviews.

Hey Studs,

Got an ad today from our semi-local Dunhams's Sports for a Rock Island M1911-A1 .45 ACP for $399.
Been thinking about a .45 off & on for while now. Mostly as home defense or when I'm ultra-deep in the thickets shooting hard cast ammo at burly 4 legged beastsView attachment 1062795 !

I know Rock Island is on the economical end for .45 auto's, but what has been you guys' experience or review of this gun?

Thanks,

Reg

I consider myself a new comer to the 1911, and on an ongoing search of 1911 knowledge. That’s my “I’m no expert disclaimer ”

That said, most people I’ve talked with that own RIA’s seem to have positive experiences and things to say about them. Assuming online posters are truthful, some owners have numerous thousands of issue free rounds from them. That’s a pretty good baseline in my opinion.

The only knock, and it’s a very minimal one, is that if you ever send one off for work be aware that some smiths will only perform work on certain makes. For example, I think Wilson combat custom shop will do Colt, Ruger, Springfield, S&W, etc but I’m not sure they will on Tisas or RIA. May not matter to you, but then again it might.

The Russians had entire NKVD battalions, who's job was to follow behind the attacking forces and to shoot anyone who turned back.
Well, typically, they had mobilized political prisoners and dissidents and put them out front of the "main push."
They had a choice of advance to contact or face the NKVD behind. Allegedly this was employed as a mine clearance method, too.

That is a good price in today's market and you can't go wrong with one of them. I had one years ago
