I was thinking of buying a Rock Island 45acp, for concealed carry. But I dont know much about them. I like the price. Are they reliable? I am too picky about my Colt, I dont want it dirty, scratched, nor do I even want fingerprints on it. So I was looking for something I wounldnt care so much about. I get tired of carrying my Sigma all the time. Its like eating a hamburger everyday. I want some change every now and then.

I got my GI Rock Island for $340.00 about three years ago,and I couldn't be happier.It has never failed to fire. It has never failed to eject. It has failed to lock back on cruddy well worn GI mags,and I switched out the slide stop,and switched to Mecgar 7 round mags.Never a hiccup since.If you can find a reliable steel and wood .45 for four hundred bucks and you don't buy it? well...

We have 2... had 3... armscor 1911.
GREAT pistols, the fit, function, and accuracy rival any non custom 1911 I have fired.
I heartily suggest them to anyone who doesnt get hung up on brand names.

This has come up a lot recently and I always chime in singing teh praises of my 5" 1911.
Do a quick search and you'll find 99% praise for them.

They have my praise. I have a 38 super, and getting a 45 tactical. I have a Kimber custom which is a top of the line style 1911, but it is not so much nicer that it justifies paying $800 more.

exactly, i argee with you 100%, i don't own one, but i have shot them and used them enough to know that they are reliable, and more accurate that you would think. check the 1911 forums there are alot of 1911 owners that have high dollar 1911's and RI's too and they love thier RI's, i own a sa mc operator, and i would own a ria if i found one and or needed another 1911.

I'm not an expert nor a fan of the 1911 type pistols but one old ex GI at my gun range owns one (and a couple of original Colt) and he told me that the RIA 1911 are among the clone closest to an original 1911....he said he has no use for the "pimped up" 1911 (Kimber, Dan Wesson, etc...) and he would gladly buy more RIA(he will get another soon) than any of the other 1911 out there.
They are very tough and very reliable...accuracy is good too.
From an "appeal" point of view I tend to agree with him...a "real" 1911 should have an utilitarian finish and no frills...it's a service pistol after all...

I'm pretty sure they are just Armscor 1911's but they are the top of the line that Armscor makes, whereas RIA markets the models with the lesser finishes et cetera.
I'm not 100% sure about the differences bewteen the models but they are all the same line of pistols.
It seems that the Daly models have a nicer finish. I think if you read up they have some other features as well.

I like mine and it seems to shoot more accurately than my XD 45 (Springfield) or my 9mm Glock 19. That being said, it's at the Gander Mountain Gunsmith right now as I seemed to have a problem with it failing to feed.

I love mine too but it's too heavy to carry. It's fun as hell to shoot though, and it has never malfunctioned. Paid $306 from Sarco 2 years ago, since have added a commander hammer and beavertail. Mike

I bought a RIA Full Sized Tactical and am happy with it.
It is accurate.
I don't know how reliable because for the several months I have had it I on;y have a little over 200 rounds through it.So far it seems solid and like it will last for awhile.

I have owned alot of 1911's over the past 25 years, and have been carring a Les Baer for the last 2 years. I bought a RI Tactical and am 100% sold. I will own another one. Very tight, very accurate, and went Bang every time with no break-in period.

I've over 13,000 rounds through my oldest RIA. They are good 1911s with no lawyer parts inside.
