Looking to buy a Rogers and Spencer .44 what are the pros and cons and is 300.00 to much to spend for a used revolver? Thanks Roger

$300.00 sounds like about twice the fair price of a Rogers & Spencer used replica. I would offer him/her $150.00 max depending on the condition of it.

No one has answered yet so I'll throw in my 2 cents.

I love my Rogers and Spencer, it's definitely one of my favorite cap and ball pistols. It's really at the top in terms of functionality and features in the cap and ball design evolution.

Pros: The design of the hammer and scalloping for spent caps is top notch. You don't get cap jams with an R&S. The loading lever design is really smart and works great as well. They are great shooters.

Cons: Feels heavy but is actually right around the same weight as similiar era revolvers. Some people don't like the shape and feel of the grip. I, on the other hand, do like it.

I'd say $300 for one in very good shape is a touch high. Unless it's pristine or brand new I would offer less. Then again it depends on how bad you want it as there doesn't seem to be lots of them around. Pedersoli is now building them since they took over Euroarms but I'm thinking the price is going to be way up there. I got mine used for much less. I would definitely replace the nipples though if the one you are buying has stock nipples. I'm just one who always replaces the factory nipples with better fitting ones. I would certainly recommend you pick one up as I think you will find they are excellent revolvers. Like I said, I love mine, and I'm a total Colt fan for all it's worth but the R&S is just excellent all around. Once you start shooting it it will completely win you over.

New or like new unfired R&S revolvers have gone for between $300 and $350 on GB. Used between $225 and $325, and a NIB cased set engraved model for $461. If it has a wear ring on the cylinder and shows other sighn of use, I'd think $250 would be fair.

If the gun is in good condition, no rust, etc., $300 isn't unreasonable for a Rogers & Spencer replica. My EOA London Gray R&S is my favorite percussion revolver.

Because they are no longer imported you may want to pick up some spare parts in case anything should break down the road.

I agree with Dave Markowitz, my all time favorite bp shooter, get one, even at $300 you won't be sorry.

Well fella's I bought mine from a pawn shop about 20 years ago and it was in pristine shape for $75.00. Maybe $150.00 is a bit too little, tell me did BP replicas go up that much?

Yup, they have gone up a little bit in 20 yrs.

I'd say A decent used Rogers and Spencer replica is a bargain at $225 or less. They don't come up for sale as often as the Colt or Remington replicas. $300 sounds within the realm of fair, but not a bargain by any stretch. If you have a bit of patience, you can find as new, never fired Colt or Remington replicas around for $150 though.

I hardly think one purchase at a pawn shop establishes the market price. You need a little better understanding of how markets actually work.
