role of .25 auto for ccw

I can see the headlines now:

"Mugger dies from multiple superficial gunshot wounds!"

(On the other hand, I would be a lot more respectful if it were pointed at me. I sure wouldn't turn it down as a back-up.)

I sometimes carry a Beretta Jetfire .25 as a BUG.
Yep, I like my old Beretta 950B Jetfire as a bug as well, loaded with 9 rounds of FMJ. It has been 100% reliable for many hundreds of shots. The 950B is a tad smaller than my 21A, but S/A only.
I own a couple dozen .25acp pocket pistols. Most of them are reliable enough for carry use. But as has been said, a P3AT is similar in size to half of them.
But there is no polymer gun made with the looks of a stainless Bauer BB clone with simulated pearl grips :D

With the size and shape of today's compact pistols, I wouldn't be surprised to see a resurgence in .25 guns.

If you increased the case pressures and made a .25+P round you'd have something worth defending your self with. Modern metallurgy makes this a snap.

In addition, you can have a double stack magazine of .25 and still have the entire grip be less then 3/4's of an inch, still plenty small enough for a mouse gun.

The point is that .25 by itself isn't that great, but it can and should be improved upon.

People have dropped and died from one 25 to the chest, others have soaked up mags of 45 or 9mm.
You use what you have to it's maximum ability. The 25 I have fits the bill for low profile carry on occaision, and I will put those ice pick wounds where they will do the most damage...nose, eye, mouth, throat, gonad.
A double stack would be a good idea, and the Beretta 21 is thick enough in the grip to accomodate it, but the problem is the semi-rimmed nature of the 25 cartridge.

Interestingly enough, in spite all the disparaging remarks I read about the pitifully impotent .25acp round, ammunition for the little guns seems to be selling out also.

There are many times when you can't carry a bigger gun and any gun is better than no gun at all. I carry a 32 auto quite a bit because I can slip it in a pocket and never know it is there. Otherwise carrying my .45 can be a chore and I'm never really comfortable with it on me.

Since the invention of the KT P32 I really see no use for a 25. The 32acp is more powerful in every way and the P32 is as small or smaller than all the old 25s. I would like one for a curio just because I like mouseguns though.
