Rolled the dice on one rough Taurus...

Yes the barrel is pinned, but the chambers are not recessed at all. I wonder, is there a good way to find dates of manufacture for these? My gun is a model 82, SN 970384, with the number 234 under the barrel, on the back of the crane, and on the back of the cylinder. I assume that is an assembly #, but if anyone does have a good idea of age on this gun please share.

Have a look here. If it's not in a data base I would bet somebody would know something.

My first wheelgun was an '82 vintage 669 with 6" barrel. A very servicable revolver for $300 OTD. I figured any issues would have already been dealt with. I still have it. ;)

Wouldn't be interested in selling the wood furniture off your SKS would ya? I have a Russian in black plastic.

that is a sweet looking powder coat job on that revolver. It seems to be a great carry gun for you. I hope that you can get many more years of use out of it since you are taking care of it so well.

Wonder how powder coat will hold up on a firearm? It chips and scratches pretty easily on a motorcycle frame if it gets whacked. Tougher than normal sprayed paint, but that ain't sayin' much.

Nice job, though. It's a good shootin' ol' gal, that's what REALLY matters. :D

I think every collection needs a few "beaters." That Taurus certainly qualifies.

Mine is a 30+ year old Ruger Mk II that has seen a good deal of use and weather, with less than proper care. Uh, maybe I should start a "beater" thread?

I saw a Taurus .38 at the gun shop today for $176 with a slightly worn blue finish. I didn't check it out though - it was sitting right next to the excellent condition model 64...which I BOUGHT!:) 140 bucks more, but it seems like it was worth it.

But having a knock around gun seems like a great idea. I have a couple of those. Something you don't fuss and fret over. Enjoy your new gun!!

The used 82s are working out as good all around guns for quite a few folks.

The owners made a thorough inspection and found the guns to be sound.

There were a couple of guns that had been used a bit too hard, but the majority seem to be working just fine and for less dollars than the "higher priced" guns with out sacrificing quality. The word is that the 82s are getting hard use and ticking right along fine.

I've got 3 Tauri with 30 years of field use, lock up is tight,no end play or shake, bores are still good, and timing is spot on.
