Got to take my SAR-1 to the range last week, had 8 30rd mags (240). Had two others with me so I probably shot four or five mags (150 rds) and I bacame aware of the trigger slam at each shot. Vibrated my finger really hard, and after all that shooting, my finger was actually sore! Didn't matter if I pulled firmly or squeezed on the trigger, because it slammed back after the shot. Any body else experience this? Is there any correction for it? What about the little oval rubber pads sold for bolt recoil? Will that help? I was considering a Nagant, but after this experience maybe x 39 is as big as I want to go. Other than this minor irritation, I loved the experience!

Trigger slap is a known problem with the SARs. Caused by crappy (incompletely machined) FCGs that Century installs to comply with a crappy law. You can do some machining yourself for a cheap fix, or buy an aftermarket FCG (Red Star Arms has by far the best). Everything you need to know is here.

Easy fix with a dremel, but if you aren't mechanically inclined I'd just go ahead and buy the RSA trigger. While you are at it get you a shepherds hook from RSA. It is well worth the money after you fool with the spring the first time.

Good Shooting

Sometimes you just cant file it out, my SAR was that way. I ended up putting a RSA trigger in and it solved the problem. The Shepherds Hook is actually very simple and only requires a push of a screwdriver to get it in and out. I think some people just like to do things the hard way sometimes, or maybe they just cant believe it really is that simple a thing to do. :)

Gotta agree with the RSA suggestions. Even if you can dremel it, the RSA is such a better trigger anyway. Never thought AK triggers could be so good.

The RSA trigger is bar none the best upgrade for an AK, whether you are experiencing trigger slap or not. It can be tuned any way you like it and makes shooting the AK really enjoyable. If you don't want to spend that much for a trigger, Tapco has their/Gorden Tech trigger available for a little more than half the price of an RSA, but without the adjustability.
