Romanian Hotshot 7.62 x 39 : some ammo appears damaged

I bought 700 rounds of Romanian Hotshot 7.62 x 39 and some of the ammo on the casing appears cracked or like it was pierced. Is this stuff dangerous to load or possibility of overpressureization? Should I analyze each round before I load it in my mag? Let me know.

No really, I have no idea, but I'm glad this came up before I ordered some of the hotshot from AIM.

I doubt that I would shoot it until someone with more knowledge than myself chimed in.

You should always be inspecting each round before you load it into any magazine for your own safety and that of those around you.

Do NOT fire a casing that appears to have been pierced, split, shows signs of corrosion, et cetera. It should look 'normal'.

If that round in your photo is the worst of the bunch, I'd say you have nothing to fret over, not even that round.

I agree with MIL-DOT. If the cases are slightly dented, there is really nothing to worry about. If the case is cracked or pierced, then don't fire that one. I have bought the Hot Shot brand from Century Arms and some of the cases had slight dents on the shoulders and small creases on the neck. Fed and fired fine with no obvious pressure issues. If you want, you could contact the seller and ask for an exchange.

it's not a ding, it's hard to see in the picture but it is actually cracked like where you put your finger and you can fill a groove where it's peirced or cracked.

What would happen if I accidently fired one of these rounds that were cracked or pierced ? What does military use when they get large batches of ammo like this?

If you have a large number of them that are cracked or pierced (I would not fire them). Firing pierced or cracked cased rounds could cause many issues such as stuck case, neck seperation, gas leaks, etc. I would recomend you contact the seller and ask for an exchange. The military would normally reject/dispose of rounds that has significant damage.

gas leaks? I've spotted 3 or 4 rounds so far so I figured out of 700, there would probably be a few that are not in such good shape.

I've seen spent cases of Wolf Military Classic that were split from neck to base. Didn't notice anything unusual at all during shooting. Dunno.

I had a round of swedish army issue 7.62 mm fired from my Tikka bolt action rifle that cracked in the middle of the casing. The bolt has gas vents that diverts the gases sideways, so all I got was a surprised expression on my face...

Kinda scary with a white puff and slap on the cheek from the pressure. No mark on the round before I chambered it, so it must have been a bad day at the factory..

By the way... It´s friday night here in Sweden, and I would like to recommend the German lager "Bitburger Pils" to you guys! An American airbase was located in that town, so I guess that some of you guys have tried it before...
