what is everyones thoughts on Rossi? I want a inexpensive revolver to keep in the car. Is Rossi ok or should I look for something else (Taurus, or S&W)?

The only Rossi revolver I ever owned was just a great revolver - older stainless .357 magnum 4" that I got used for very little money. We were living in the country and I wanted my wife to know how to shoot, and taught her with that old Rossi. I have also owned one of their lever action rifles and it was first rate.

I own a few Rossis and like them just fine. In fact, if I had to name my favorite .38 special, it'd probably be my stainless Rossi 851 with a 3" barrel.

I have an old Rossi 3" M68 bought new in 1981, fantastic little revolver and very accurate. I've owned 7 over the years. Late 80s, early 90s, fit and finish was a little sloppy and they had a run of firing pins that was of suspect material in that time frame, but new ones are great and my old 68 is as well fit and finished as any similar gun out there under 600 bucks.

I inherited a model 88 about a year ago. Sitting on my desk right now. Mostly carried when working around the yard. Tight and accurate. I've run quite a few rds through it and so far so good. May even polish it up one of these days:)

I always thought the Rossi revolvers looked and shot better than the Taurus revolvers. Now that Taurus owns Rossi I don't know what the Rossi revolvers are like. If Taurus left them alone I think you will be very happy with a Rossi revolver.

I own 3 taurus and have owned 7 Rossis and the Taurus is consistently more accurate and a better trigger. 2 of my 3 Tauri compare well with ANY out of the box revolver ever built by Smith and Wesson. The 3" M66 is an 80s gun with the older DA hammer block action and doesn't have quite the good trigger that my Smiths and my newer Tauri have. My M68 Rossi's DA is a little stiffer than most Smiths and Tauri, but is smooth and the SA is pretty awesome.

My 4" M66 Taurus is more accurate than my old M971 Rossi, my old M19 Smith and Wesson, my old M10 Smith and Wesson, and MUCH more accurate with .38 than my old Ruger Security Six. It and the M10 stayed with me, the others are gone. That 4" M66, an early 90s gun, transfer bar trigger, but no lock or MIM parts, is simply amazing with it's tight little 25 yard groups. I can shoot 1" regularly with it with .357 OR .38 at 25 yards off bags and if I had a ransom rest or a scope on it, I'm betting I could HALF that. Amazing gun. I use the gun for outdoor carry, hiking and such where I can wear it openly on a belt. I sometimes carry the 3" IWB, carries concealed IWB a little better than the 4" gun.

I don't own a post Interarms Rossi and never have. I will if I want one, though, as I only have quality Taurus revolvers and won't let that stop me from a Rossi if I so desire. From what I'm hearing, they're even greatly improving their customer service and both are warrantied for life.

I've got an M68 that is going on 20 years old, and it is a great gun. Has had a ton of rounds through it, and it locks up and shoots just as fine as a new gun.

It's been carried in a holster for nearly all those 20 years by my father and then me, and it's only just now showing signs of holster wear.

I can't speak to the newer ones.

I've had 3 Rossi 38 snubbies, two were excellent and one had a problem with cylinder rotation and I had to keep the back of the cylinder greased to keep it functional. Usually worth the price, S+W is better.

Rossi and Taurus are products of the same maker, I've owned one Rossi as a mater of fact my first.38 special revolver It was a solid gun. I'm not much of a Taurus fan, have had bad luck with the ones I have had the pleasure to shoot just glad they weren't mine.

Same here, Rossi is great Taurus, don't like as much. They are not smiths or colts or Rugers, but they are great rugged revolvers.

While the Rossi 88 I have seems to be a nice little gun I don't think it's as good a revolver as the Taurus 85. JMHO

Although I like my Rossi (461 in .357), I bought another gun for SD.

Mine broke after 300 rounds.

But if you get one, get the 461/462 and just shoot .38s out of it.

I totally agree. The little 85 has the slickest DA trigger in the business, very accurate, very rugged. I've owned an 88, too, Interarms gun. I like my 68, well built gun and accurate, but the trigger just doesn't compare to the Taurus.

I have a 971 Interarms 2" 357 IWB right now. This has been a good gun and looks to bee machined as good as any S&W.
