I still haven't gotten a specific answer on this one so I thought I'd ask here. Am I to understand this rifle will fire both 45-70 and .410 shells? Anybody have any practical experience with it? I know an average 45-70 can load the shot shells but has problems ejecting the hulls. The linked advert almost leads one to believe it can do so without issues.

Yes, I am well aware of some of the opinions concerning Rossi, what you think of Taurus flavored hybrid rifles and such. Don't care. Does it fire both? Does it do so competently? Thanks :D

nope.... that would be the rg4570 Have to admit whomever wrote the Rossi descriptions probably doesn't have the best command of English. They never say "fires both" as they do with some of the 410/45colt models rather just name both calibers available. Fire a 45/70 in a 410 if you can load it and you'll likely get a different reward than ya expect!

+1 on Billy.
With VERY few exceptions you buy a tool for one purpose, if you buy it for two purposes it won't do either very well.

check my recent threads... stay away from that rossi!!! I've got a hundredth of an inch of overbore on the barrel, the .45's just rattle down the barrel and hit wherever they happen to, the .410's pattern like an old blunderbuss... you stand a better chance of doing damage to a target by practicing throwing the gun...

Of course the .410s pattern like a blunderbuss; they have rifling. I thought that was a given :p Your other problems, however (yes, I've been reading) don't exactly make me want to pick up a circuit judge any time soon.

Either way, question answered.

First post here!
I just got one of the 45-70 Rio Grandes and shortly after playing with it, it jammed! The lever was about 1/2" from closing and wouldn't open either.. So I went to disassembling it.
Turns out the gate which engages the bolt was jammed into the bolt and it came unstuck once apart, then I cleaned it. So here it is the first good photos I've seen of this gun thus far on the net.
