Rossi Survival Rifle in .45 colt....... and of course .410

I guess I should wait for an accuracy review before I write it off but I had a couple different 45/410 contender barrels and they shot worse at 20 yards than any other contender barrel I've had did at 100.

I never did get one of those, I figured I'd probably just swap the barrels out vs haul around the straight choke and key, how were the straight chokes at helping salvaging the pattern?

The first one I had was a TC barrel with the choke and it shot about like a cylinder bore shotgun, so somewhat usable at shorter ranges. The 2nd one was an aftermarket barrel with no choke and that was pretty much useless with birdshot.

It’s the new model tuffy so hard pass.

The newest iteration of the tuffy has a reciever that seems like it’s some kind of polymer molded over a steel skeleton. It looks and feels cheap. I don’t trust it to hold up very well over time. When I was looking for a tuffy for my kids a couple years ago I learned about these new frames and I searched for an older tuffy for about 2 months before I found one. I paid a premium for that steel framed old version that was used. I think I gave about $20 more than a brand new in the box lifetime warranty hunk of plastic. Maybe it was a silly move, but I STRONGLY sugggest anybody interested in one of these to check them out in person before buying.

But if a 45 colt barrel will drop into my frame I’m all for it.

As I do love my Contenders I know of the 450 Mungo (444 Marlin fireformed for 452 dia bullets) and then used in the 45/410 contender barrels to keep that bullet jump down to a minimum to increase accuracy. I think I've heard folks using 410 full brass shells as well

Remember, not much that hasn't been tried when it comes to firearms.

Here's a fun one folks. Looks to be a perfectly fine break action single shot .45 colt that just so happens to fire .410.

The real question is can it shoot the really hot Buffalo Bore .45 colts.
I have not yet worked up to Tier III 45 Colt loads, this afternoon I did try a load that is upper limit of Tier I or perhaps just into II. Bullet was the 45-270-SAA propelled by 9.5 gr LongShot - this clocks at 950 fps from a S&W M25; from the Tuffy 45/410 clocked bullet at 1070 fps.
Temp was just above zero (F), cartridges were cold as I had been outside for a couple hrs, More testing when weather moderates some.

how much does the steel fame one weigh? I am interested in the polymer frame deal because of weight.
